Powering Central Locking via rear SAM module

So I'm an idiot who has done something stupid...

Long story short, I had to take a long distance trip for a long time at short notice, and I have left my car with the drivers side parked against a wall, I wont go into why I did that, apart from I did mention I am an idiot.

Now I've returned from my trip and the battery is flat, I can not get the drivers side open (as there is a wall in the way) to pop the hood and get to the battery, and as I now realize there is no manual lock on the passenger side.

Doing some searching online I found this thread where a guy had a sort of similar problem.

https://www.slkworld.com/slk-r171-ge...en-door-2.html

So reading this, it sounds like I should be able to get the boot open with the key, and get access to the SAM. After that I assume hook another car battery to the SAM module, open the passenger side door and then pop the hood to get at the battery?

Has anyone got any experience of doing such a thing? Does this sound like a realistic idea?

Makes sense to me. Find the 12V+ feed (thick red cable) going to the SAM and tap your charger/tender there. If you can't get onto a terminal you can always pierce the insulation with a small nail and clip onto that. Find an unpainted bolt back there somewhere you can attach the negative. If it doesn't work at first leave it to charge the battery for a few hours and try again.

That's quite a dilemma. Is the back of the car fully accessible?

Any result here? I looked at a photo of this quite large connection and I'm wondering how the connector works - I've never seen one like this.

You could hook up a jumper from the battery stud on the starter to a 12v power supply...… that would effectively power all systems

Sorry for the silence guys, I got caught up in a bunch of stuff over Christmas and did not get time to revisit this.

Thanks for the posts there is a lot of useful info in there.

I'm going to give it a go tomorrow weather permitting. I've taken a 12v Battery from another car and I've got some jumper cables, and I've been to Halfords to get a Socket set.. so I'm about ready.

I think I've seen the same picture, I think I just need to connect a Jumper cable to it, and then another one to ground somewhere, I will try and take a picture once I get there.

Tell me more is the Starter easier to access than the SAM?

I know it's taken me a while, between the bad weather and illness I've not really had the chance to have at this, but today was my time to shine!

I followed the video and got the trim off, I was very impressed with the trim removal tool, and unbolted the SAM and...

The other thread I linked said 'but if you take a look at it, you will see a really obvious, large +12vdc power feed coming from the left side of the car.', I'm not really seeing any large power feed... anyone know where I should be looking?

Ok, I managed to get the connector out of the back of the SAM.

Am i better off leading it disconnected before I attach 12v to it? I'm thinking there is less chance of blowing up the read SAM that way?

I've got a battery from another car that I had panned to connect, but I'm now wondering if I could just use my battery charger?

I'm just a bit nervy at this point of causing untold electrical problems....

Sorry only just seen this one and might of missed stuff so forgive me.

Had this type of thing on a lock out job where you could not get to door lock to open car , we could however jack rear of car up gently on the rear axle and then pulling on the jack handle ( direction away from wall ) and with someone pushing the car sideways away from wall it moved enough on the trolly jack wheels that we could then open the door.

But looking at the thread your a bit deeper into it now

Sorry

Peel the black insulation and then just peel a small part of the red insulation and with a wire just make contact just enough to open the dors.

Finaly got a dry day to revisit this, I have a 3.0Ah 12v battery, it's fully charged, I got some 17 Amp rated cable and made a small harness to connect positive into the power connector I've unplugged from the SAM, and the negative side I connected to a bolt screwed into the firewall.

the result was.. nothing, door would not open, the alarm light was not flashing, nothing at all.

I assume the firewall should provide a decent connection point for negative? as I'm just trying to work the central locking and not start the thing, is 3Ah enough? or do I need a bigger battery.
