Blower motor regulator

My blower motor has given up - not nice as I drove from Hampshire to Essex to Birmingham to Cardiff and back home to Hampshire on the Monday to Wednesday last week in 34 degrees of heat - which for a Brit is fairly bloody hot!

Have removed the motor - local garage reckon its that and probably not the regulator.

From Mercedes the motor is £223 + VAT at 20% - the regulator is £241+VAT - so horribly expensive.

The risk is that I pick the wrong part to replace.

It seems that the UK is doomed as we have a unique fan that you can only get from Mercedes - whereas our cousins and the Euro's can get one for about £90.

I found a regulator from China that seems to fit the bill, just wondering whether anyone has tried them.

I have found a blower motor from a Merc dealer via Ebay at £244 inclusive of VAT and with free shipping - the spindle on the old one has loads of play.

Tax wise I did 450 miles and can claim that at 45p a mile so I get £200 in expenses tax free - so I may just buy the motor and if it is the regulator buy a cheap one.

Afaik the regulator connects directly to the 2 pins on the blower motor, It's the 2 round pins in the upper right of the pic of the regulator in the Chinese ad you posted. Lower left are the 4 pins that connect to the regulator to the control unit in the dash. So remove the regulator and put a 9V battery on the 2 pins. Not sure if you could do something with a multimeter. Depends on what type of DC motor it is. If it doesn't has an electronic commutator then I guess you should measure 0 ohms between these points.

Well the 9v battery test didn't work which is probably good news.

The replacement (uber-expensive) part arrives within 48 hours.

And just for a laugh I have been checking out the regulator.

Official part number is 230-821-02-51 - now replaced with 230-821-64-51.

Official price is £241+VAT. (£289.20 Inc VAT!!)

On the regulator itself is also printed 9140-010-471.

The above is the part number the OEM uses (Valeo/Bosch).

Google 'Bosch 9140010471' and you find the part listed at £87.99 including VAT.

Result!!!!

Just ordered one. Should be good for the next 12 years!
