fuse box in trunk??

Can some one please point me out how to access/find the fuse box in the trunk?? I need to replace the fuse... but couldnt find the fuse box in the trunk... any instruction will be appreciate.. and pictures will be even better. Thank you

First take out the panel at the bottom of the trunk covering the spare wheel etc.

Then if you have a navigation unit, there will be two fasteners, one on each side of the surround, around the DVD player in the trunk:

Once you take out those 2 fasteners, you can remove the surround:

Directly below the DVD player you will see a new fastener. Undo this one as well:

Now if you look near the spare wheel, there are two more fasteners near the bottom. Undo these:

If you've completed all these steps, the entire back panel carpet can be pulled out. It's kind of wrapped around the DVD player, but with a little tug, you can undo the two top flaps and then the entire thing will come out, and the fuse box will be exposed:

You can see it behind the metal panel in that last picture. The big yellow and black squares are actually relays in the same fuse box. Here's a close-up:

thank you so much... following you picture, I found the fuse box right away... this whole morning I opened quite a few flaps looking for the fuse box without successed. I have another question. My smart key suddenly could not longer lock/ulock the door, but still able to turn on the engine... I already changed the battery.... What could be the cause?? I read some member here changed the fuse #8 and it worked... but it didnt work for me.... :(

can some one please check for me: press any button on your key fob, while looking through the digital cameral, or camera on the phone (look at the end of the key fob), do you see the IR light?? (cant see with normal eyes). I read online and someone suggest this is the way to test your key fob function. Interestingly, when I did this, my r171's key fob didnt have any light, but the key fob for my other c and e class did put out IR light. Is this normal for our key?? or my key is broken?? it still be able to turn on engine, but cant lock/unlock....

That is exactly what a tech at my local MB did to check if my fob was broken. He used the camera on his iPhone. I could see the red light from his own fob, but mine didn't show (although it did seem to work ok).

I may be wrong but the lock/unlock is RF signal I think so wouldn't show up anyway. Do you have the OEM remote roof with the IR sensor by the door handle? If so then you would expect to see the light.

You are correct Eddie, the car does use RF for operating the locks.

The signal is picked up by the aerial and is fed to the rear SAM via an aerial amplifier/splitter located behind the trim in the LHS of the boot. The amp/splitter is a small tin box about the size of a cigarette packet. If any of the cables to this have been displaced, the key fob (assuming the battery is charged )will not operate the central locking.

I dont have the remote roof (sensor at the door). It is very stranged that I never touch anything in the trunk area.... but I will follow you guys advice and check the spliter/amplifier tonight. Also the 1st thing I did was to replace with the set of new batteries... nothing help. Also note that even with the new batteries, when I press any button on the fob, I dont see the blinking light (on the key fob, dont remember if the light ever work), but on my c and e class, it blinks when press....

As you don't have the remote roof, and I don't think there is any other IR function (someone will jump in if I'm wrong), there would be no reason for the fob to emit an IR signal. Maybe someone else without the remote roof can confirm theirs doesn't.

I hope you are right, I already ordered a new key from the dealer couple days ago.. didnt have the chace to pick up until maybe this weekend. I just want to make sure it is my key, because if it is something with my car, then Im not sure if they can program/test the new key.

Also I have a question, does the light on your keys blink when the buttons are press?? my didnt blink at all

I have one 1 key (Im the second owner). On the side note, I was hoping you would that that your key blink... that way I know for sure the key fob is the problem... Now Im even more clueless.... That strange, both of my c and e class key fobs blink when buttons are pressed (very difficult to see but they did blink)

If you look at the photo of my key you can see a small round dot just above the buttons . When the buttons are pressed this lights up , but the end of the key doesn't emit any sort of light , even lokking through a camera /iphone . I've also got a chrome key waiting to swap the chips out , that acts in the same way !

I hope you are right my friend, then it just my key that broken... I already ordered an additional key from dealer, waiting to be pickup... much better than being clueless, dont know what is wrong...

One of 3 fuse boxes. The other two are under the hood in a black box on the driver's side (Left-Hand Drive), and inside the car, when you open the driver door all the way, behind that bulbous black plastic panel that is to the left of the steering wheel.

Mine had a little piece of paper folded up neatly and tucked into a slot in the driver's door fuse box that showed the location and function of every fuse.

Don't you just love those Germans. :)

I don't think so. Almost all the lights on the back of the car are "electrically fused" meaning the Rear SAM control module takes care of killing power to them if a malfunction happens.

That said, the light pops out very easily if you pull on the bottom of the white translucent cover. It is only held in place by being snapped into 2 very shallow rails. Once you remove it, and undo the cable (taking care to ensure the cable doesn't slip back through the hole) it should be easy to check the light bulb and/or replace it.

Here's what the light looks like from behind if you took the trunk panel out, the trunk light beind the thing with the 3-hole metal clip over it. It's not necessary to take the panel out in order to remove the light though (the picture was part of a DIY on tail light removal which does require the panel to come out of the car):

If you do lose the cable or the entire assembly by allowing it to slip back in through the hole, you can use this DIY to remove the rear trunk panel to get access to everything that's behind. It's basically just undoing a bunch of fasteners and 2 screws and then pulling it up:

Most modern cars even the US built model now use micro processors and micro switch with relays to operate a host of the items in your car. As these are very sensitive to over and under voltage the number of fuses has gone up to protect the expensive down stream sensor or switch or light or whatever. My 07 Ford has 3 fuse boxes also 1 under the dash (traditional) 1 under the hood (power distribution from the 130 amp alternator) and one behind the rear side panel behind the lift gate for trailer accessories the lift gate and rear lights.

Part of lighter smaller trend has been that the switch you press doesn't operate the device any more, instead the switch send a signal to the power module which then decides to send proper power to the appropriate device.
