Have some time on Star tomorrow - suggestions?

I have booked some time with an independent to spend some time with Star Tool as it turned out that my not optimal rain sensing wiper performance was due to the car not having a rain sensor!

Again thanks to this forum I have been able to determine that all that is needed is the right sensor and then enabling and setting it up with Star.

My question is - while there, is there anything I need checked or changed with Star? Bearing in mind that I have a printout of error codes that I insisted on when I bought the car and those were sorted.

TIA

Dutchie

There are a few options which can be enabled if you don't already have them:-

- 'simple' tyre pressure monitoring (does not uses in-tyre pressure sensors, but measures differential tyre rotation using ABS sensors).

- 'Cornering Lights' turns on the appropriate fog light as you steer into a corner which (slightly!!) increases illumination into the curve.

- amount of fuel remaining in the tank.

I think there are a couple more, but I'm getting toooo old & senile to remember them all!!

If you have a look at Seanhump's posts, you'll see a lot more that can be done with the addition of extra sensors & transducers etc.

I'm going to be heading down to my local Indy with STAR some time soon to try and see what hidden gems can be uncovered and also to see why my little annoying orange engine light is on. Presumed it was petrol cap not on properly but it's stayed on for about two weeks now. Any other tips other than the three above?! And also are these available to enable on a 2005 350?!

I was going to mention OAT but as the OP is from South Africa, he will have it set already. Very useful to have in the UK though - especially with our current weather.

Thanks gents.

I almost forgot about the alarm chirping - that's definitely going on the list, as well as the amount of fuel remaining.

Pity that I can't get the AMG menu in the MFD on a pre facelift model, or can I?

Manny,

On the post facelift AMGs you get oil temp and some stopwatch functions in the MFD - AFAIK this is only on the 2007 onwards 55s.

Partial success.

Rain sensor enabled.
Alarm chirp enabled.

Could not get the fuel remaining to work - searched here and could not find the answer: Do we only enable "Tankinfo im Reichweitenbild" or is there something else?

TIA

Hi Manny

I saw the cornering fog lights option (The mechanic let me watch and go through the options myself, which was nice.) I don't want that. Smple tyre pressure I already had.

You need to do a reset on the IC after any variant coding for the changes to take effect....
