I've had some issues the last few days on setting up our garage opener with a rolling code. I finally figured out what I did wrong. I skipped a few steps in the manual since I misunderstood the reason why you have to program the garage door opener with a remote for the garage first if you have a rolling code (if you don't do that you cannot train the receiver since the car will not transmit a frequency instead it'll be listening). So I thought I'd rewrite it in laymen terms in case anyone else was lost too for rolling codes or how to use it with a normal remote or don't have a manual.
Switch on the ignition.
Step 2a (OPTIONAL):
Reset all of the memory for the system to reset all previous settings. Hold the outside transmitter buttons (1 and 3) for approx 20 seconds but less than 30 seconds. (the indicator lamp will begin flashing and then you can let go -- around 20 seconds)
Step 2b (OPTIONAL):
Reset a single channel by holding the desired channel you wish to reset for approx 20 seconds but less than 30 seconds. (the indicator lamp will begin flashing and then you can let go -- around 20 seconds)
(do NOT skip!
including for rolling codes) Grab the remote and get ready to click the remote button for the correct garage door and the button you want to program on the garage opener in the car. Now click and hold both buttons pressed down. After approximately 5 seconds the indicator light in the car starts blinking faster, then release both buttons.
Click the button you just programmed in the car. If the indicator light is a steady light then chances are the garage just opened as you pressed it and it should work properly and you are done. However, if it flashes constantly this means you have a rolling code and then go on to step 5. (If you do not have a rolling code and it still doesn't work then skip to below step 6)
(the rest is only for rolling codes)
Hit the training button on your garage door opener motor head unit. Then quickly return to the car (or ask the person who is helping you and is sitting in the car) and click the same button you programmed before for 2 seconds and release it. Then press this same button for 2 seconds again.
Test the button -- now it should work
In case you're having more issues (esp for Canada):
If this still does not work then it could have gone wrong while programming the initial remote then hit the transmitter button in the car and hold this down until you're done. Then repeat the following until the indicator light flashes, hold down the button on the remote for 2 seconds, let go and press it for 2 seconds again. Then if it works (garage opens and your indicator light is not flashing when you hold it to open the garage) you don't have a rolling code and you're done. If now it finally learned your rolling code frequency (the indicator light now flashes when you hold the button) then go to step 5 and continue.
Personally I could only get channel 1 to work on my garage opener because I had programmed it with the remote before training my garage opener unit. I couldn't get the other channels to work because I never programmed them with the remote -- so do not forget that part if you have a rolling code
