Battery Draining

I have recently replaced my battery, it was 8 years old and for some reason had lost its charge.

Upon replacing the battery my car started first time, however two days later the new battery was completely dead.

Just before I replaced the battery I noticed the central locking had stopped working, could this be cause of my battery drain?

Thank you in advance.

Could be a problem related to PSE corrosion, or a shorted alarm siren which could drain battery (or blow F9 which will kill locking). This looks like you need to get the codes read by MB dealer or Indy with comparable package.

You should also have the alternator checked.

Thank you for you reply, the last thing I had replaced was the alternator.

Excuse my ignorance what is PSE short for? I had a quick Google and come up with an interesting alternative

Pneumatic System Equipment, I believe.

On the right side, on the floor of the boot/trunk, tucked in under some of the plastics, wrapped in foam, you will find a pump and some electronics which control not only the pneumatics, but several other items as well.

The positioning of the unit results in the circuits getting wet if any water gets into the boot/trunk, resulting in corrosion of the board and failure of several sub-systems. Taking the unit out and cleaning the contacts can have a beneficial effect.

Search for PSE (Search is at top right of page) and you'll find dozens of threads about what can go wrong if the electronics are damaged.

There is a fix for the corrosion problem - lengthen the pneumatic hoses and mount the unit upside-down so that water can't get onto the circuit board.

You'll see lots about that in the search results. Be careful to connect the pneumatic pipes correctly after lengthening them.
