Now... I didn't pay very much for my SLK. It's old and has quite a lot of imperfections... it's not a disaster, but it does have the odd rust patch and so on... I'm not after a concours condition motor here, just some open top fun
the guy I bought it off told me that the car did once have some sort of lacquer on it, but that it had started to look rough, so he had it removed... I think he said by someone with a pressure washer.
this did make me a bit nervous, but I was in love with the car on first sight... you know how it is...
so... he said that in places the lacquer was still on, like on the edge of the boot lid, and the odd place, but it would come off with a fingernail.
this is true but in some places it will not... and as I've just discovered, there's a big patch on the boot that was being covered by a sticker, see this thread here
here are a couple of pictures of this phenomenon, I wonder if anyone has any suggestions as to what to about these patches that are too tough to scratch off? (a full respray I hear you say... well maybe one day!)
I don't suppose there's some magic stuff that removes lacquer but not paint is there?
what lay beneath the sticker
the boot lid... the bonnet is like this too
