Problem! All Lights On!

So I just got my Slk320 2002. I love it. But it started showing a problem and it is grounded until it gets fixed. After I start the car all lights stay on. Gear will change but very hard and heavy with a chunk. Then if I attempt driving it won't change anymore and it will stay in 1st gear. This was happening sporadically but would go off if I turned the car off then back on. Well today it just stood there, lights on all the time, and turning off then back on didn't help.
Basically: all lights come on and they stay on after the car is running. Then when engaging gears, D and R, it will engage very hard and then other gears won't engage staying in 1st, impossible to drive. I noticed it would happen more often on first start of the day morning time with the car cold.

Please check photo.

Help needed. More experienced owners, what is going on with my sweet SLK? What is the fix? Help!?!? Please... Thank you people!

Hi,

Looking at the lights that are on, I suspect that you have an ABS / ESP Problem, which is transmitting a Code to the Transmission and Engine via the CAN Bus and putting it into limp mode.

It could actually be the other way around, i.e. Trans or Engine Fault transmitting code to ABS/ESP.

There are many many Sensors involved in these 3 systems, so it could be any one of them at fault, or Wiring / Connections to them.

You absolutely should get this Car read properly, by a professional, on SDS (not other Diag Machines, NONE except SDS go into enough depth).

Anything else will be pure guesswork, and often results in you spending loads of money throwing parts at the Car, and often not fixing it, or when you do you find it was a £50 sensor or somesuch ;)

Ask for a print out, or write down EVERY Code and Description in these 3 systems, report back here and one of us will likely be able to tell you exactly what part needs changing to nail it first time

Profile completion is important .................

If you had completed your profile one of us could have maybe advised you on somewhere reliable to go to get the Scan done, you may be near my Garage, might be near another Member with SDS or Garage he uses etc etc ;)

Recommendation is always better than some greasy self appointed expert Garage who claims he can fix it ;)

Thank you very much. I will get it scanned. Some people say it can be water. What do you think?

I will finish my profile as soon as I have some time available. Thank you.

Updating...

So the problem only appears, normally, on the first start of the day. All lights come on, and when I put on D or R it will engage the gear very hard and heavy making the car kinda immediately try to move. After it is warm, oil temp around 60, it will either stop doing it, with all lights off after I turn it off and then back on, or just the engine check light stays on after the restart procedure. Eventually after I drive, shutdown, restart, the engine check light will not come back on. During the rest of the day then it will operate normal with no lights coming on. Quite temperamental I would say ??.

Dear friends, do you have any suggestions or diagnostics? Can you bring any light to this situation?

I took it to the maintenance/mechanic and he told me to just keep driving the car that eventually it will dry (the water, please check previous updates) and come back to normal.

Anyone? Please?

Thank you. ?

Hi,

My advice is to do the correct thing here ............

First verify the Fluid Level is correct, if so next get it read on SDS (MB Diagnosis system), see what faults are there.

Advice to keep driving it is lunacy from a moron :crying:

You could end up toasting a perfectly good Transmission just for the need of a litre of oil or a fairly simple repair etc etc :frown:
