Resolved - Has anybody seen this before?

I have a bit of a mystery here in the form of a modded cluster, something I picked up off of eBay for the aftermarket face basically.
I'm fairly sure that I know where the face originated from but the mystery is in the middle cowling..

Where did it come from? Where is it from? Who made it? Can I buy another?

It looks a bit like a W202 or W163 outer fascia but there is no VDO, p/n or MB stamp on it so it has to be an aftermarket item I would have thought ~ good quality nonetheless but a real oddity

FYI it was on cluster no. 1705402311 which is a really old cluster but that cowling doesn't match any that I can find at all .. just a real mystery to it's origin

It's the one on the left, the one on the right is the 'normal' one ..

I'd be curious to plug one of those in, and see if they work on the 170. My guess it's all the same calibrations.

I bought it for the face which is an exact like for like match apart from the LIM light, even the (former mystery) front bit just clips straight onto the R170 cluster - hey, it was on a 170 cluster

The only ones that appear to be markedly different re. calibration would be the '32's and the SRT-6's for you guys that like to push the envelope past 160mph .. cue @Dave2302 (see what I find out for you?)

Hi @M4rCu5 @Turdo2 @LeonardoDaBenz ,

You [email protected]@dy Dancers

I was going to buy the black face kit which would have cost a load of money and then time to install, glad I didn't, just scored a Crossfire 160mph, ( ), Cluster for 50 off EBay, be here in 3 to 4 days

Thank you so much for that info Aaron, and I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger on the Black Face thingy kit

Off to find the Black HVAC Switch panel now, this lot will look good in my Car with a tiny Brabus Logo on the Tacho

See what you've gone and started now Mark

Cheers Dave

PS @M4rCu5 ,

You should have taken my 118 mentioned in my PM, could have earned a nifty there

BTW, does that actually have a LIM light behind, or do I have to fit all the cosmetic goodies into my Cluster ?

Cheers Dave

Heads up .. W208 looks like a better fit than the W210 .. and it might keep SDS happier ..

One way is to take the R170 and the W210 units apart, then marry the W210 front to the R170 rear .. I reckon W208 should drop straight in tho ..

On my phone which is not performing too well atm, 4g's being a pain but I've got photos if only I could upload them

EDIT

Lol I'm doing the donkey work

It was an original R170 cluster so yes it had the LIM gubbins all in place but no LIM window on the black face - hence you wont see the LIM light. Not really an issue cos I've only used LIM twice in 14 & half yrs but the pedantic amongst us would have to cut the window out with a razor blade or something and somehow transfer the window from the white to the black .. it's doable, just a bit of a faff

I'm saying that I have a xfire face that I bought attached to an slk cluster. All clocks and needles are at this stage (not in my car yet) exactly where they should be so it appears to be a case of swapping the faces only whilst retaining your original cluster.

I'm thinking other way round, put the Crossfire cluster with the SLK face INTO the SLK.

The clusters themselves should be physically the same size, tbf I havnt got a xfire cluster but the fronts are definitely interchangeable.

Hi again,

Yeah, I think it came to about 160 + for 200 mph with a few options, maybe more.

BTW, just done a mercy dash, Mels mum out of pills, Chemist 14 miles away, closed at 5:30, lots of tourists to overtake so I took the R170 .................

I can categorically say that 160 mph will not be enough on a 5.0 V8 R170 with 2.82 Diff, it was barely enough with the V6

That was using the disused Airstrip as an off road short cut btw occifer

Now I'm planning buying a used R170 Cluster surround (upper driver side dash panel) and trying to rework it so the bone stock Crossfire cluster fits and looks factory

Then we gotta look to see if SDS will change the Cluster Coding to think it is an SLK32 and get the Black circa 200 mph Fascia from those other guys ................

Told you you've set me off again

Cheers for now, Dave

in that case you might want to take a look at the SRT-6 cluster as opposed to the '32
