Gentlemen, first off I'm embarrassed to have to ask this question. I was in the automotive repair business for most of my life and jacked up most everything there is except Mercedes. This 2001 with the sports package is so low I truly can't scope out the underside of this car at all. If I had to guess I would put a floor jack under the jack points of the car and go from there. But that would require two jacks going up close to simultaneously. Under the front is the big splash shield so you can't see any frame members there and then how about the back? I'd love to pull a wheel and see how the spare fits and if I need the second set of bolts the manual talks about but I want to use a floor jack and not the factor emergency jack.
Thanks always for taking your time to read my posts and weigh in with your answers. Very much appreciated.
Thanks for the link. I did use "search" as I knew I wasn't the first to ask that question but alas my search string didn't come back with anything but I do get an A for effort.
Well the jack is not my problem as I have the low-pro model. But this car is such a tank I'm not afraid of twisting it. Just need to get it to my hoist and get it up in the air and solve all these issues.
Thank you so much for taking your time to post a response and a great idea.

Too each his own but there is nothing wrong with the standard jack that comes with the car. Chock the offside wheels crank it up and then put something under the suspension. If you want a good look under it rent some drive on rack time.
A word of warning here. The last time I took my SLK230 for a warrant of fitness, they used a pit to get under the car. However, I am quite sure they then jacked the car using the plastic shield under the fuel pump. It can't be a coincidence that the fuel pump stated leaking very soon afterwards - as it had done six months earlier after the car had had a warrant inspection at the very same testing station! Needless to say, I won't be going back but the moral of the story is to be very aware when someone else is working on your car.
I'm still going to get under the car and check it out but I've decided to let Mercedes do the service and repair work on this fine car. Although after studying the replacement of the top cylinders I would tackle that job myself. But I would defer everything back to the dealer.
And one of my pet hates is the so called professionals, morons who jack cars up on the Sill (Rocker) Lips, which not only crushes and bends them but also breaks the paint / underseal at which point the dreaded tin worm sets in :frown:
Shoddy Garages, Tyre shops and Recovery operators are the worst !!
No one will ever jack a car of mine up any more unless I am present and supervise
That was my way of thinking Avel, build it and leave it in situ. You could make the back end detachable so it sits more or less flat when not in use and then it'd be just roll on roll off :nerd:

I dug a pit 30 something yrs ago by hand, that I'm still recovering from lol but if you want to be really flash when your lottery numbers come in ... …
The very back of the under shield is bolted to the cross member. You can see two larger bolts in the very middle of it, that's a good strong spot. that's how I jack up the front of my car all at once. You'll need a fairly long-nosed jack to get to it! On the back, use the differential as your jacking point. Sport package models should come with jacking points under the side skirts. There should be little covers you can remove to gain access to that.
