R170 Cigarette lighter install

Tried looking to see if this was already a forum, but I’m not sure exactly what this part is called. Anyways I ordered this new cigarette lighter part but have no clue how to install it and as a 17 year old I really do not want to mess up my car. All help would be appreciated. (The part on the left is the new one, right is old.) Would need help removing the old one and installing this new one

Oh, thanks appreciate it.
So do u think I have to remove the whole console? Bc I just need to replace the old part with the new one, and I can access the old part no problem.

Its been a while, but I believe you will need to remove the center console - just the part under your elbow. There are nuts in the back and screws in the front (inside the storage box, under the liner, and under the shifter surround, respectively). Be extra careful - patience and caution will prevent the fragile plastic from breaking. If things break, save the pieces and epoxy them back together before reassembly.

Ok. Thank you very much. I’ll have to try that soon. One more quick question though, would it be possible to just remove the wires from the back of the old pet and connect them to the new part. Like in this pic I have the whole part out of the console

I think you can pop it out if you are careful. The wires just go on the new one. The roof switch is trickier but even if you have to take the rear console out it is no big deal.

I had never had one of these cars when I go my first one and the seller smashed the roof switch between me buying it and picking it up. He bought the switch and it was the first repair I did. Took less than 30 min as I recall. Once out it snapped in so the lighter I expect will do the same.

Have a look here for console removal
https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart...le_Removal.htm

The hardest job I found was removing the hand brake grip. In the end I used an old feeler gauge to unstick the grip from the steel underneath which had corroded slightly. A long strong pull is the way to go and it will free eventually.

Why not just disconnect the old.and.plug in the new? IIRC that connector comes off sideways, not in the direction you'd think.
