Reely bright leds for Dashboard.

I have seen alot of posts about changing lightbulbs in dash on a 1998 modell.
But most of them are old.

Therefor im asking if someone have a new working link och page for realy bright leds for it.
And the exact name of the socket.

Amazon, ebay or something works great.

The part that is worsted is the speed and rpm meter.

Have changed one time before to led but i think i got wrong socket. The fit is not good. Had to bend the small things so they stay in place.

Cant remember the name of those.

Please help me with the right socket and some bright ones.

Best regards Thomas.

Hi,

My eyesight in the dark is not the best but I can see my Dash perfectly well, I suspect that you have a couple of bulbs blown, just replace them all with brand new 10 pence Ring Bulbs and be done with it

HTH, Cheers Dave

I take it that you have got Button 1 (the potentiometer) turned all the way to the right?

Oh! Is that how you do it. I never could figure that out. And reading the manual is outweighed by driving the car.

Problem fitting LEDs is that a normal dimmer won't generally work. Mind you, maybe not a problem if you want bright all the time.

Well...
First the knob is fully turned.
Dimmer works.
The problem is that the T10 i have is kinda loose when its on its place mounted.
It seams that the 2 wings are tilted up a little. And on other they are tilted back little. Soo one is hard to get in place but it sits tight. The other is loose and can vibrate loose.
And I got the ones that is loose.

IF I search on T5 B8.5 i find 2 diff socket.

Look at these pictures.
The blue socket.

Its labled the same. T5 8.5d but the first, the space is tight between the metal pieces and on the second its alot more space.

The second its loose when mounted and The first is kinda hard to mount but sits tight.

Hi,

No help, but just for info ..............

My W220 S Class has Fluorescent (OE) cluster lighting, and led's everywhere else, (all switches, ambience etc etc) looks awesome in the dark without blinding one

It's Cluster has a manual Dimmer for you to set but also Auto Dims Cluster at night from the Vehicle Light Sensor

Yes i can bend them, but since the are sharp its hard to get them to sit tight or even to get them in.

The ones to the left is the best.. but its hard to know what you are buing... they show one pic and sends something looking not right... there for my question about someone that knows exact what leds to buy.

Having no problem at all to w8 3 week for them...

here in sweden they cost like 10$ for one led... thats aload of money for just one lamp.

You S Class boys are just spoilt rotten at times

I've decided that I need something to do so I've sourced a spare cluster fo the 200 forr Ł20 to play with..
Interesting in itself as it's a different part no. to the 320 even tho they both show 160mph and the V6 is only 11 days newer .. ahh hang on, light bulb moment! (no pun intended) .. the '6 is AT vs the MT on the '4 .. only thing that springs to mind ..

Hi @M4rCu5 ,

MT vs Auto, also 6Cyl vs 4Cyl (Rev Counter maybe) ???????????????????

I don't know for certain on R170, but on most other MB's that would just be done with "Version Coding", what is more likely is that it is a revised part, or manufactured at a different plant, have you checked EPC for both Cars Cluster p/n's ...............

Might reveal more info

HTH, Cheers Dave

Yes I check, that's where I got them from - no revisions for either ..

I was hoping for one to fit both as they're only 11 days apart but if it's not to be then so be it,' it's just a trial plaything that came along at the right price

Could be the rev counter but they're identical in that respect as well. Only physical difference that springs to mind is the gear indicator window .. on the M/T the window is present but there is no gear indication inside of that window, it's blank, nothing, nada. The A/T on the other hand .. P R N D 4 3 2 1

Hi @M4rCu5 ,

OK, so likely if there's no revision I expect they are just made at a different Plant, what are the digits that are different ?

First thing you can do when SDS arrives is to look in Cluster for Version Codings, see if you have Auto / Manual

I'm a bit busy right now otherwise I'd go look at mine and fire up SDS, but we got 4 of Mels coming up next week, with their respective partners and 10 Grand Children between them as she got the big birthday next week, so I'm busy building bunk beds for the kids and a huge kitty activity house as we gonna have to relocate them for about 10 days in our Conservatory and one room off it, otherwise one of the young 'uns is gonna leave a door open and let the poor little kitties out, they aren't old enough to go out yet !!

Also chopping down 3 huge trees and a [email protected]@dy great roddy bush tomorrow to free up and reclaim a bit of our land, initially for parking, but maybe later a huge workshop

I finished the weeks work at 10 this morning, 2 Cars gone so built this to get a head start for the weekend, it's almost 2m tall
They have a smaller one in the lounge already, gonna love this ........................

Cheers for now, Dave

@Dave2303

We've got a cat tree very similar to that, only in grey

And my different clusters are also off topic
Anyway, seems there are revisions, I missed a little - sign, my bad sorry

V6 - 320
A 170 540 46 11 - Replaced by - A 170 540 59 11

L4 - 200
A 170 540 42 11 - Replaced by - A 170 540 55 11

one glaringly obvious difference between the two ..

And it will be nice to draw a LINE under this, maybe they are interchangeable after all, time will tell
