Need to borrow SLK32 R170 Gearbox ECU (TCU)

Hi,

First up, this will not harm your TCU or alter it in any way !!

For my forthcoming V8 Install, I am looking to borrow an SLK32 Transmission ECU, it will not be harmed, all I want to do is plug it into SDS, copy the Version Coding, then return it to its owner.

I will pay all postage packing costs both ways etc etc.

Alternatively, if you are coming in your car to NW Scotland area I can do this in half hour without removing it from your Car, in an ideal world this would be great to find someone who actually has a spare one to lend me for the coding copy

The reason for this is I want to code a V8 TCU for the 32 diff ratio, and that is the easiest way to do it, then I have another choice of Diff Ratio I can use in between 2.82 V8 Ratio, and 3.27 V6 Ratio, i.e. the 32 Ratio of 3.07 which I think will be the ideal one for my Car :wink

Any ideas how you can help guys ????????????

Cheers Dave

That would be a real big favour Dave, there's only around 200 of them still on the road.

Do you ever get any C32's come in that get left with you for a spot of work? .. Just an idea ..

Hi,

LOL, nice idea, but most of my MB Customers are waaaaay too tight fisted to put fuel in a Supercharged Petrol Engine ........................

I'd say 85% of the Cars I work on up here are CDI 's

I don't really think it's that tall an order, I'm sure someone in a 32 will likely drive up near me or some guys have probably got a spare, it's just a matter of finding the correct person, who is trusting enough to know that I'm not going to sod up his Car / spare unit !!

Like I said, if someone is coming past mine it doesn't even need removing from the Car, and takes longer to boot the SDS up than actually copy the Coding.

There is another possible option, but involves taking my Car 120 miles round trip to our Main Dealer, then plugging in a V8 TCU, and getting the Dealer to Version Code it for a few beer tokens

For some reason, (saying this I've only had to do one), but I could only do this on my own SDS by copying first, then plug in spare Module and transfer the Coding ................

It gave me a nervous moment, as I had binned the faulty TCU, but luckily the bin men hadn't emptied it !!

They aren't like most modules where you can just code different options lines from a list until they are correct, I believe if a TCU is so FUBAR it won't read, or if you want to do a non standard coding like I do, then you have to get the Coding from MB Server and flash it to the new Module ....................

Fact is that may not work in this case, because MB Dealer's software is so "idiot proof" it may not allow it as my VIN will likely only allow the 3.27 V6 Diff plus V6 Trans Ratios Coding !!

Lately I have been unable to contact that other guy who said he can custom code these EGS 52's, but right now I'm just looking at all my available options, and as I have a few spare EGS-52 TCU's it makes sense to have one ready coded for 3.07 Diff

When I get some spare time I'll have a fiddle on one of my own Cars and see if there is something I missed before, way back years ago when I did my own W220 TCU

Cheers Dave

Ahh well, back to square one, I just bought a C32 Komp TCU but I now know it won't work, Diff and Trans are different, I've asked the seller to cancel it .....................

3.06 Diff and a W211 Tranny

So, I got to either use the S Class 2.82 Diff Ratio with V8 Trans and TCU, or somehow buy / find a used R170 SLK 32 TCU / or borrow one to copy coding / see if I can custom code a regular old V8 W220 EGS-52 to suit 3.07 Diff .........................

Cheers Dave

The site reckons on there being 269 SLK32's either taxed or SORN'd in the UK at the moment

In fact, over it's production period of 2000-04 only 263 were imported to the UK

I noticed that as well and there is a disclaimer on there somewhere .. I think I was probably more accurate with my original 200 still in existence guess - you guys look after them
