Remote locking problem

I have an '04 R170 with a remote locking problem.

The central locking works fine if I press the button on the dash. However, the same does not happen when I press the buttons on the remote key fob. The strange thing is all the lights work ... I get 3 flashes for locking, 1 for unlocking ... but the car does not actually lock/unlock itself.

So ... communication from the key fob to the car seems to take place, the lock motors are known to be working, but there's some piece in the middle not connecting the two.

I wonder if someone can point me in the right direction for what that missing piece might be.

Unless I'm mistaken, if it were the fob batteries then I would not be seeing the lights flash when I hit the fob buttons.

I'd assume the same would be true for the receiver right?

I'm thinking it's maybe something between the receiver and the actual locking mechanisms, but not sure where that is or what to look for.

The pse controls central locking.
It can be prone to water ingress.
Have a look if the foam surrounding it shows signs of damp.

Also check the (3?) vac tubes are in place and not kinked.
These are normally on the top, but a fix for damp was tu turn the unit upside down.

Do dome and trunk lights work? I had the same issue and the problem was just a blown fuse. Not sure which number, but the same as for those lights.

Different fuse for central locking on mine. The alarm shares the dome lights and horn. Fuse looks OK.

Hi,

Hmmm, I'm curious now, and ya'all know what curiosity did ...................

So if it is PSE why does it lock off the front Console Switch, and not the Key Button, or does OP mean he's pressing the Door Locking Pin (top rear of door trim), and if so, is that causing the other door to lock, because my C/L and Alarm etc all works perfectly but the Door Pins do not operate any other locks or ATA ?????????????????

Meow

As I understand this, OP can sit in the car pressing the console switch unlocking and locking said vehicle to hearts content all day long .. so far, so good ..

OP vacates car, attempts to lock vehicle via the button on the fob, IR signal is received by said vehicle and everything does as it should. Apart from the pump, which appears to be now not springing into life and doing what it is supposed to be doing for some reason

I'm guessing that the console switch and the IR are on two different circuits as the console switch only has one function, to lock or unlock the doors and bootlid, whilst the IR has so much more going on.

@efair knows about this stuff

Hi again ,

OK, that's how I understood it sooooooooooooooooooo ........................

PSE must have been working fine when he was pressing the switch all day long, might be blown up / worn out by now tho

IR ?? , IR ??

AFAIK the Key Transmits RF when you press Lock / Unlock Buttons, AFAIK IR is only on DAS 3 Keys

I'd say whatever receives the RF, (IIRC it is the FBS2B Immo Module, as it has 315 MHz on it's label, see piccie), from his Key is working, hence the Indicators Flash, but that module is not getting through to PSE via the wiring (Body CAN)???

Bearing in mind that PSE Suffers from water it will likely be water damage/ bad plug on PSE perhaps ..................

I dunno, I'm going back to my V6 to V8 Hexadecimal # Immobiliser and Version Coding sh 1 t

Cheers Dave

I'm out of town away from my diagrams but IIRC it sounds like the cycle module and PSE aren't talking. You need to scan both these modules for errors.

You guys have the symptoms correct, though I have not explored the solution because ... now magically things are working, when the day before they did not.

I am thinking it may be water incursion. I got caught in rain driving the car home the other day and it may be the PSE unit is causing the issue. Need to look at preventing that, per the other threads on the subject.

Sorry for wasting your time guys ... though if the car gets wet again, the problem does remain (assuming that is the cause)

Not a waste of time. It may yet lead to a solution for you that is permanent.

When you check the pse also remove the spare wheel.
Underneath is a drain plug about the size of a large coin.
These dry and crack with age and are one of the many sources of water ingress.
Check the drainhole threads too. They can plug up.

Just being curious but with your car being an '04 (one of the last of the R170s), if you do happen to be poking around in that area can you confirm if your PSE is factory inverted or not?

Just that that has been mentioned a couple of times on the sister forum is all.
Seems to be the later (2003/04) V6's only?

It was very definitely a fix for pse issues.
I don't recall it being as standard, but a fix.
