Mercedes mechanical wizard needed

Hey guys, I have had multiple different plans and ideas for my SLK and having put my car in the hands of some very knowledgeable Merc professionals it seems that we both had different ideas. Even though they are very good at what they do and I can’t dispute that. However it is my car and my money therefor I believe it should me be who decides what i do.

So with that said, here’s the story so far......

I bought a stunning 2001 SLK320, had plans to rebuild the V6 and get some extra horses to run with. Then after realising that after spending nearly 5/6k I’ll only have a few dozen horses. Where for that money I want the Grand national 🤣🤣
So then I was kinda persuaded to restore my 320 to concours factory standard and start and second project sporting a AMG GT lump. But then that’s taking my cost way up and over the best of 30k! That’s a bloody mortgage rite there, no wife or (husband, I don’t judge) would allow that to spend that on two cars that neither would be any good for a daily drive.

So I good friend of mine, his dad is selling his 2000 CLK 430 V8 with 60k on the clock full MB service history. I made him a (reasonably low) offer being cheeky and he kindly accepted 😁

So now having all the credentials needed from the V8 as I’ve got the whole car to work with, I am looking for someone who has the knowledge and knowhow to do me the pleasure and take on the task to do the conversion for me. I will supply near enough all that is needed other than the odd bit here and there that we won’t know of until you get into it. If anyone is interested in taking this job on for me please PM me and I will respond.

So in a nut shell (just to be clear) I have a complete CLK 430 V8 that I want fitted to my SLK320. I have all the suspension and brakes sorted. It’s just purely getting the V8 & V6 out then putting the V8 back where the V6 was as well as sorting all the wiring. Obviously you have to replace all brakes and suspension too but like I said it will all be there.

I have a major back operation coming up and this is one reason to why I can’t do it my self and the second reason is (if I’m honest) I wouldn’t know where to start and 3/4 years down the line I’ll be stuck with two cars that I started and never got any further than disconnecting the batteries 🤣🤣🤣

If you think you are more than capable to complete this or even if you know someone who you think would be capable then please please let me know to discuss further. I am looking for a professional who takes time and pride in there work and will complete it to the highest standard so it looks to near on factory standard.

I know that there will be the odd few imperfections, but I basically mean I don’t want it to rattle my spine worst than it already is or when I turn right I end up going left. There is now rush, for it to be done and I’m in no rush to get it started. All I really care about is finding a Mercedes mechanical wizard to get the job done and get it done right.

I really hope that I can find the rite person who is genuine and really willing to help me achieve what I want to. I am in Essex U.K. however I’m willing to travel anywhere within the U.K. to get the perfect t finish that I want. Hope to hear from you guys soon thanks Rik.

I don't have a builder to recommend in the UK but I do have an expert on such matters.

@Turdo2 has … ahem, enlarged his potential on his 170.
He may have some useful tips for you.

And you could check out his rebuild threads too

There are others, but his seems most relevant.

Plus, he is one of our go to guys, not just for mods either.

@Rikvdub ,

You have a pm.

It is not just an MB mechanical specialist you need to make this work correctly, but someone who can also do all the Electronics / Immobiliser etc as well, including various Coding etc with SDS Machine.

I have been doing this stuff for 40 years plus and built show winning Cars

This below isn't what you want, but shows my standard of work, a V8 400ci Small Block Chevy in an old Fiat 500, road legal and drag raced in a street class, I built this years ago as PR for my Transmission Firm when I lived in England. I now run a small Garage in NW Scotland specialising in MB's and still building project Cars.

I would estimate that you could be driving your Car well before the Winter

Apart from the final Paint I did absolutely everything to build this from a rotten bare shell:-

It used to run low 11's with traction and short wheelbase being the limiting factors

HTH, Cheers Dave

Hi,

I'm not actually a Jock , originally from South London, then Kent until I got to 45 when I sold up and moved to NW Scotland to get outta the "Rat Race".

Love it here, started up the Garage business here about 3 years ago as I wanted something to do, and the local area needed a decent Garage who can cope with the complexities of the Modern Cars.

I have never advertised up here, very busy, all word of mouth, and a lot of work sent to me by the local Garages too

Cheers Dave
