Question Decipher error codes

Hi all!

I have had my car to a MB specialist as I have some slight problems with my varioroof. I have made a thread earlier about this, but it ended inconclusively regarding a solution.

In short, I experience periodically problems with closing the roof. In the diagnostic aid in this forum I am getting stuck at Stage 2 in the closing sequence.

I was given the complete read-out of error codes from the mechanic and was told that there is basically no defect, the roof just needs to be used more. (The previous owner only used it for a couple of months a year.) The mechanic lubed the entire roof and of I went. But still having issues with the roof.

So now I hope that you fine people can help me, decipher the error codes that I was given. It is on page two under the section "Variotag" (Danish for varioroof). Is there a switch I can have replaced, is it something else, or just as I was told: "Use it every day, and suddenly the error will disappear"?

Thank you all in advance.

Cheers Jacob

Ps: I had the car returned from painting today - I'm very pleased photos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/iXsmJsCChm3g6au38

They do like to be used. So it might help.

Cleaning/lub'ing the seals and lub'ing the moving parts again won't hurt.

In case something more sinister is going on, I'll summon the clever folk.

Hi
Beside the FFZ error, all of them are stored and not current.
You should clear them and see what is coming back.
The roof has stored errors but not current errors.

Hi,

Agreed erase and see what returns.

Live Data ("Actual Values") is the way to check these for a Microswitch Fault.

These need someone who really knows their way around SDS HHT Win, and knows which Microswitch does what and when.

The one that commonly gives the Fault that you describe and your print out suggests is under the Roll Bar Trim and works upon the Right Rear Hinge, it tells "Roof Open" / "Roof Closed" and costs around 20.00 from MB, it was still available a few weeks ago, took a few days to come from Germany to Scotland

Do not ask me how I found all this out, but suffice to say, after working faultlessly since I bought the Car I had returned from a nice Sunday afternoon out with the Car, a storm was brewing and the Roof decided not to go up !!

When I got the switch out it was obvious some "inept" bodge artist had glued one of the 2 plastic retaining clips in a previous life, and it had come away from it's fixing.

There is a very good "Schematic" Diagnostic Aid in the stickies on this Forum, here :-

https://www.slkworld.com/slk-r170-ge...ostic-aid.html

I found that very helpful along with my SDS whilst waiting for the heavens to open and yelling foul mouthed abuse at my Car

I know you can close the roof manually, btw, but you cannot get the Rear Windows to go up and knowing the amount of water that can fall out of our skies, i was not prepared to leave the Car out overnight in that state. Workshop was full of Customers Cars in bits

HTH,

Cheers Dave

My problem is, that the nearest mechanic that knows his way around a car like this is around 100 km from where I live... So I have to take a day off, just to have him diagnose the error "in action".

As several of you suggest, however, this is the right (and only?) way to permanently fix this. So I might just have to spend a day on this. Not to mention the trip, but hey - it's a nice ride

I have had my eye on this particular switch a couple of times, I just might order a new one, just to see if it helps.
