Exclamation Passenger window wont go down

Hi - this evening my passengers side window on my 2002 R170 (230) won't go down and therefore the roof wont go down.

I notice a click when I try to move the window up but nothing to make the window go down.

We've checked fuses 19 and 20 but they seem fine and anyway, the drivers window goes up and down with no problems.

PLEASE HELP ME

Welcome to SLKWorld.com: The #1 Mercedes-Benz SLK Forum from Valrico, Florida!

Please update your location/vehicle (model and year) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information if you haven’t already.
‘Usercp’ at the top left of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘location’ and ‘vehicle’.

You might want to post an introduction in the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section, if you haven’t already.

Some tips to make your visit here more enjoyable:
If you haven’t, please use the 'search' feature at the top right of the page for your questions as they have probably been asked before. Remember, ‘Search’ is your friend.
In addition, if you haven’t, please post your question in the appropriate discussion forum for a quicker response and only once. Be patient and a knowledgeable member will address your question.

I'm having the same exact problem with the same exact year and model. Any luck on a DIY method?

I just ordered a new switch for the passenger side window. Mine was bad. To diagnose it, pull the chrome trim ring from the shifter and then pry up the plate that holds the switches and the air bag light. Swap the plug from one switch to the other and see if the window works. If it does, order yourself a new switch. HTH.

When you press the roof button, are you hearing a crunching sound or the sound of a motor spinning but not catching? This may be hard to hear since there are a lot of motors and moving parts engaging all at once. You may need to open the passenger door and kneel down next to it when you engage the button so you can hear what is going on or not going on inside the passenger door.

Does the drivers side go down when you engage the roof button? Is the roof button flashing when you push it?

When you use the window button, not the roof button, are you hearing any noise? You should hear the window motor.

If it is not the switch most likely a motor/ regulator. In the small back windows they are all one piece. In the front windows, it looks like the motor and regulator are separate.

When I engage the roof button the drivers side window will come half down before the whole process stops. The passenger window does nothing at all. The sound of the roof process is normal. When trying to roll down the P. Window there is no noise but if you hold the up button you can here it clicking just like the drivers side.

The clicking most likely indicates that the motor is still functional but the regulator has either gone bad or the cable has come off the pulley. Or you may find that something else in the door has broken and has wedged into the area so it is not allowing the window to come down. My suggestion is it is time to pull the door cover off and get a good look at what is going on. Someone here on the forum can point you to the website that shows how to remove the door panels. I do not have it bookmarked.

I do find it interesting that the window not coming down stops the roof process. When my back wing window went bad, the roof still functioned. I guess it is a safety feature that if the front windows do not work the roof stops so that is does not break the windows when the top comes back up.

Keep us posted on what you find so the next one of us that has this problem has a better idea of the issue. Take pictures if you find something obviously broken.

Have you tried the double click on the top button? Press the button twice rapidly toward the back of the car. If the windows work, then it's not in the door. If the passenger window still doesn't work, check the motor in the door. Just another way to check the window operation.

Have you tried swapping the switch yet? I doubt that it is the wiring because it is pretty well protected and you have proven it is probably not in the door actuator. Do the simple things first.

Well, that's a bummer. I'll have to think harder for a solution.

Have you tried the double click on the top button yet? Press the button twice rapidly (kind of like a double click on the mouse) toward the back of the car. Did that work for you?
