Vario Roof - pivot arm collision!
New problem on the Vario roof mechanism on my 1999 R170 SLK that does not appear on LeapyFish's PDF file of problems, or anywhere else in the forum that I have found.
When opening the top. just past the balance position, the driver's side steel mechanism hangs up and won't continue into the trunk.
Upon investigation, the problem is where two pivot point elbows are supposed to pass each other, they collide, preventing the roof from going into the trunk.
I hammered it slightly to where it worked once, but after closing and reopening it, the problem persists.
I don't see any mounting bolts or anything to adjust, although it is hard to see beyond the rear deck.
It is just below the wing flaps, and it overlaps about 3/16" which is too much for it to slip and continue.
No indication of failing rivets - both elbow joints seem to be snug. There has been no damage to the car or frame - no accidents.
Any ideas as to what can be adjusted?
