SLK230 SRS red light.

Finally got the CHECK ENGINE light to go out by itself. Had about 6-8 codes for spark plugs, misfires, fuel rail trim, and even something to do with speed velocity.

Drove the car around, all of those went quiet. No more CHECK ENGINE light (for now).

Still have the red SRS light. Air bags. Anyone know how to reset it, or turn it off without a visit to the $dealer$??

I noticed a small AIRBAG light that looks like a button down between the seat near the shift level and window buttons. It's not a switch, so it must be a light. It's not on. Just wondering what it's for.

Driving around with that red SRS airbag light on makes me a little nervous knowing that an airbag might explode in my face at any moment.

Guess: it goes on when something is on the seat that is heavy enough that it should be wearing a seatbelt but isn't?

You need a scanner that can read and clear the SRS function in a Merc. Just a plain OBD-II cannot.

The red light on the console usually means the passenger air bag is switched off.

If someone is sitting there without a seatbelt you get the seatbelt light (but goes off after 8 seconds). The SRS light is something else.

There was one lucky forum member - but the general advice is to take it to a dealer.

You may be lucky and be able to reset the lamp following these instructions - but read them carefully. Unless you'd been doing exactly the same thing you cannot be sure if you actually have a fault or not. Therefore it's best to get it checked through very thoroughly before attempting the reset. The SRS lamp is supposed to be a dealer-only reset for precisely this reason.

Further information from Mercedes:

The airbag indicator and warning lamp indicates that the supplemental restraint system is ready for operation. When no faults are present in the system, the indicator and warning lamp comes on when the ignition or glow/starter switch is turned to or past position "1" and goes out after approx. 4 - 20 s.

An error or malfunction is indicated in the supplemental restraint system by the indicator and warning lamp not coming on when the switch is turned to position "1" or not going out after 4 - 20 s.

Errors and malfunctions not endangering passenger protection are indicated by the indicator and warning lamp burning for a longer period (approx. 2 min.) when the ignition/starter switch or glow/starter switch is turned past position "1".

Errors and malfunctions which can lead to erroneous actuation of the safety elements or failure to actuate are indicated while driving by the indicator and warning lamp burning continuously.

Its the red SRS dash light. Local parts house with the OBDII scanner is of no use.

By the way - are you any good at replacing the O-rings in these hydraulic cylinders for the top? I'm in Orlando as well, by UCF.

With respect, just resetting the SRS lamp will not 'fix' your problem nor will it remove the worry you have about the airbag detonating. That is why I suggested above that you should get the system checked through to make sure any fault is found and cleared.

+1 you need to know why the light is lit and it will take an AB (airbag) capable Mercedes scanner to find out. That said in general if the airbag system detects a fault it will be disabled. More dangerous is a system (like the ones under the recalls) that thinks it is OK when it is not true.

Looks like you are in Orlando, pm me and since sounds like you have a pre-facelift will give me a chance to find out if my 38 pin adapter works.
