What’s this wire?

I nudged the rear bumper on my facelift R170. A single strand black wire has dropped down and now dangles below the bumper. It seems to run from one side to the other. Any ideas about what this is?

Cheers Neil

It's likely to be the radio antenna:

A2/31 - Rear bumper antenna
A28/4 - E-call and radio antenna amplifier

i was tempted to say

that it's an MB-designed paranoia cable. Doesn't do much except worry you when it appears from nowhere. If it ever drops down on mine, I might remove it, as I have to say radio reception is not its strong point. Even with factory optioned Beckers, FM reception is lousy out of the city. On aftermarket units, even worse, on Radio 2 that is. I can get Ludlow FM almost anywhere....

Thanks Elmer. In that case it is working perfectly. Paranoia has set in good and strong.
I intend to follow the standard advice “give it a shove and hope it stays that way.”
