Unhappy Near Thing with Boot

I very nearly "bought the farm" on Thursday - I was reaching into the back of the boot getting a picture frame out for a friend when one of the struts popped off the ball.(I had changed it a week before)
Luckily my friend has reactions like a cat and stopped it taking my head off - although I had a red line across my neck and a headache for a few hours.
Mercedes makes them solid but this also makes them heavy.

Moral of this - when you do work on your car double check even the simplest things. I certainly will in future.

Glad you are OK.
There should be a retaining clip of some kind on the ball joint. Had it come off?

Dropped a trunk lid on a finger while in college, made quite a sight at night driving to the infirmary with blood running down the side of a white Jag roadster.

I had the same thing happen. only it was the hood of a Jeep Liberty.

I was elbows deep in the engine bay and was literally saved by my shop light that happened to get wedged between the hood and fender.

knocked me pretty good and also damaged my light - but same lesson was learned, always make sure those clips are on there!
