slk r170 console 12v aux power
Has anyone else had issue with the 12v aux power outlet in the center console going bad, or not working to provide power to devices like a phone charger?
When I bought my car I noticed that no matter what brand, or type of 12v accessory charger I used none would work. Today I disassembled my console to get the the outlet after checking the fuses, etc and found that by using a multimeter I am in fact getting 12v switched when the ignition is on, but none of my device chargers will activate via the jack.
I have tried three different phones (HTC Desire, IPhone 4 and Motorola Tundra) along with a GPS device(TomTom 700), none are getting power from this jack.
I removed the jack and cleaned it pretty well, including scraping the electrode and corrosion from the metal inside.
I suspect it is one or two things; either the jack itself is damaged, thus facilitating a replacement or; the 12v jack from the factory doesn't offer enough amperage to power any of the devices I am trying.
Understanding I am referring to the traditional cigarette lighter as the 12v aux power outlet, is there anything different on these cars I should be considering, or does my diagnoses sound about right?
If it is the jack, anyone have a part number for just that little peice without having to do something crazy light buy a new console?
