Interior motion sensors

I have recently replaced a non working siren module as the backup batteries had leaked all over the circuit board.
I got another, fitted it, lock the doors , when i open the doors the siren wails and indicators flash as it should.

Problem is the motion sensors don't activate the alarm, the manual says you can turn them off by the combined ata/ims switch and that the light should flash when you turn key to position one and press the button but no light illuminates on the switch.

Its as though the ims are not connected even though they are.

Anyone else have this problem ?

Thanks, Jake

I have exactly the same problem but my anti tow away does not work either. Discovered this when I tried to turn it off on a ferry and like you did not get the correct sequence of flashing lights. I am going to ask the garage at the next service to see if they have been turned off which I understand is possible.

If I remember correctly, the manual says to press the tow away switch/motion sensor switch when the key is in position 0 or 1, or removed completely. My switch will only flash with the switch pressed and key removed, otherwise, like yours, it doesn't appear to work. I can only assume that it works as I haven't found anyone to tow it away yet! Sorry, cheap gag! I realise I could have tried to find out if it had actually disarmed the motion sensor, but it was early in the morning when I was playing with the button and didn't want to disturb the neighbours incase it had (or hadn't if you know what I mean) worked. If I remember later, I will 'fiddle with my switch' again.

Thanks for the replies
Yes I tried with the key out, and in position 0 and 1 to no avail.
I have access to a snap on modis diagnostic so I'll take it home tonight, it talks to body control modules including mercs but not sure if it can enable or disable sensors but it may tell me if they are turned off.

I believe the motion sensors don't work if the car is locked with the roof down. I tested my sensors by having the roof up, opening the drivers door window then locking the car. Waited a few minutes for everything to settle down then stuck my hand in the open window. This triggered the alarm. How did you test yours?

I tested it the same way, locked the car with the window down, waited for a couple of mins and stick my arm in.
This was with the roof up.

Connected snap on modis but it doesn't have the function to talk to the body control modules or alarm

So if the ultrasonics don't work with the roof down surely it gets this information from a switch ?

My roof works fine but If I knew which switch I could test it.

Motion sensors

Exactly where are the motion sensors located ? my friendly mechanic at the sailing club tells me that in his experience the first thing to do when they start to go off erratically is to check for spiders and the like moving into the sensors !

Is this an April fools joke? Does the R170 really have motion sensors inside the car? It would be cool if it did. But then, I am learning new things about this car every week. That's why I enjoy this forum so much.
