Noisy gas flap lock and non locking trunk

I'm in the process of sorting out my 99 sport and I noticed two nagging problems. The first is after using the key fob to lock the car I can open the trunk causing the alarm to go off. Seems like the lock is not engaging.

The second issue is with the gas door. Unlocking the car I get a loud clicking noise as the locking pin retracts. However it locks just fine without any noise. Any idea on a fix for these two?

Know nothing about that year so I'll ask:

when you lock it, do you have to physically press a button on the fob or do you just have to touch the door handle to lock it?
