R170 320 Steering Wheel advice please!
Hi I just wondered, my 320 is first registered December 2000 and was fitted with brushed aluminium trim but I retro fitted my OEM Eucalyptus wood trim and have now sourced a mint OEM matching Eucalyptus steering wheel. Ive seen a Sept 2000 registered 320 currently on Ebay (same UK plate X reg) with that car having the full wood laminate package presumably as factory fit so am sure the wheel will fit.
I will no doubt find out, but I wondered if anyone would have any first hand knowledge if the part Wood laminate and leather steering wheels have different airbag/airbag fittings from the standard leather 320 steering wheels? Also, I have not worked on steering wheels but have done other motor vehicle work on past cars, aside from battery disconnection a good hour before taking a steering wheel off, would anyone think that a steering wheel swap would be best left to a professional? Ive been reading up on it, and obviously wouldn't want an airbag to blow post steering wheel fitting. Has anyone taken their wheel off for any reason and found any issues. Would a steering wheel removal with battery disconnected guarantee that you would definitely have an SRS/Airbag fault come up that would require code removal.
I don't use my car much so time isn't a problem and I could source alternative airbag if necessary but wondered if anyone might be able to advise. Would be very grateful for any comments. Kevin
