Exclamation Had to drive my 1998SLK230 through Water&Mud: Need help Plz!!!

Hi everyone.
About a week ago I had to drive my 1998 SLK230 through a flooded street covered in mud, I could not tell just how deep the water and mud was...
It was my only way of getting home at the time.
It was a very bad storm, normally we do not get such storms where i live in California.
I got half way through the water before my car started getting stuck, my car wanted to stall so i just kept giving it more gas to force it through, after i got to the other side my car was barely running, spitting and sputtering, just inching along, I had to give it all the throttle just to keep it going,
thankfully home was only 7 blocks away, so i just used my hazard lights tell i got home.
It died once on my way back, it restarted ok despite the sputtering, after getting home i let it sit for a few hours, restarted it, at first I had to give it some gas to keep it started,
the car was shaking, idle was shaky
, trying to give it more throttle just made it turn off, so i left it alone
, the next storm came through so i had to let it sit for days,
I used the time to do some online research, found out it could be the air filter was clogged, choking the engine, so i checked that, it was covered in water and mud and I found out how it got in, there was a hole in the bottom side of the casing, must be how all the water/mud got in, it looked old because i found the pieces of the hole inside and they were brittle,
also checked the spark plugs, nothing got in there, nor the electrical/fuse box. had a friend get me a new filter, put it in today, started up my car everything seemed fine no shaking, sputtering etc, idle ran good, sounded good, so i took it for an easy drive down the street, going slow was fine so i gave it some speed and then it tried stalling on me, i had to give it a lot of throttle to get it back into the driveway.

note: everything in my car is getting electricity just fine, battery is fine.

I would check the fuel line/filter and Catalytic Converter but I cant get up under the car, no jacks because someone steal them from our backyard...

Any ideas? help please?

This car is our only means of transportation...

No, sorry, I do not own any diagnostic tools yet, and i can not drive it to a mechanic...
I have a friend who knows a mechanic, i will probably have to ask he to sent the mechanic over,
i would prefer not to pay out a bunch of money i do not have..

Welcome to SLKWorld, enjoy your stay

Everything you have mentioned indicates engine flooding. When driving through deep water the exhaust can draw water in to the engine - which is why 4x4's have 'snorkels' fitted. If this is the case you will have water in your oil (check the dip stick / remove the oil cap and check for 'white' deposits)...

How deep was it? Did the water come over the bonnet (hood)? For the air filter to be 'covered in water and mud' the air intake is likely to have been submerged and, again, it is likely that water was entered the engine through the air intake channels...

White deposits in your oil is one indication of water ingress.

I'd change the oil, transfluid and differential just to be safe. You got lucky. I've you'd sucked water into the engine it would have hydro-locked and destroyed itself.

I forgot to say that i did check my oil via the dip stick, it looked like normal, it was not higher then normal, i did not see any deposits, or water droplets.

The water was above my tires, but not over my hood other then the kick back/splashing caused by other cars driving through it on my drivers side and from driving through it.

(Yes i am blessed, i was praying the whole time not to get stuck XD)

Note: I borrowed my friends car jack and supports today, it there is enough daylight left tomorrow after i get home from work I will jack up my car so i can check the gas filter, and the catalytic converter for clogs,
I will look up proper placement of jacks and supports before i do it, so i do not damage the frame,
i also need to get out our wheel blocks.

A friend suggested stuff might have gotten in my fuel line?
I also read it could be the throttle position sensor got damaged?

The symptoms could be cause by so many different things.....

Just a note, I did not buy this type of car intentionally, It was a hand me down from a friend, and lets just say the person was not mechanically inclined at all... they trusted their mechanic/dealer to do their jobs right, after I received the car it had a check engine light on for coolant/water, i checked it and there was NONE IN IT AT ALL! BONE DRY! omg....
their dealer was supposed to of checked all the fluids and capped them off... and done an oil change, i checked it, nope no oil change.... I had to get it done myself, took it to MIDAS, you know the ones who did not notice the hole in the air filter casing... the size of a bottle cap in an ovalesh shape, it looked like some projectile hit it, rock or something..

Lightbulb Updated Info:

I took my car out for a test drive again today, went up and down the block, accelerated, my car did not turn off, yay,
it did however arch a few times, sounded like it wanted to turn off but did not and the sound went away,
my gas smells weird, like rotten eggs, which got me thinking,
the same day i drove through the muddy water, before heading home i stopped at a gas station i never go to,
because the gas was cheaper, when i put the gas in it smelled weird then but i thought nothing of it, it was raining so hard, windy, freezing that i just went on my way, now we are thinking i got some bad gas, maybe the gas mixture was wrong or they put the wrong gas in the station tanks.

Any thoughts?

I started asking around to see if anyone has any gas drums so i can drain the gas and put some new in,
problem is i have 3/4 a tank XD

If i cant get the supply's then i will have to get someone else to do it for me...

I'm guessing the exhaust smelled like rotten eggs not the gas. H
That's a sign of catalytic converter failure.

Hi again, the diagnostic scanner i ordered just got here today, i have two codes now,
P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire
For this problem i ordered 4 new spark plugs, they will not get here for 4-5 days..
I am hoping it is only the spark-plugs and nothing else.

P0105 Manifold absolute Pressure barometric Pressure circuit.
I am not sure what to do about this one yet, it could be multiple things...

As for the Catalyst Monitor it read Incomplete...
I read that i would probably need to drive my car a lot to get the scan to complete...
I can not drive it yet though...

I had to replace the coil packs on my '98. I'm betting you need new ones too.
