Bring a Trailer Auction 10K-Mile 1999 Mercedes-Benz SLK230

Not my auction found it on Bring a Trailer if you are looking for a low mileage R170 go check it out.

This 1999 Mercedes-Benz 230SLK has been with the same owner since new and has 9,796 documented miles. The car has been stored indoors in the dry Texas climate for the duration of its life and was driven only seasonally. The supercharged 2.3 liter DOHC inline-four is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission and the seller describes the car as running smoothly with fully operational accessories. The only noted flaw is the common flaking of the painted interior plastic on the center console. Extensive records date back to the purchase order and include a clean Carfax. The car is sold on behalf of the original owner with a clean Texas title.

here are the details

May just be the photo, but the front bumper looks to be a different shade of silver.

Crazy low miles but I wonder if the PSE and K40 will be toast because the car sat so much.

I think the low miles maybe helped a little to increase the price how often do you come across a 99 Slk with 9k on the clock. If a MB Dealer would have sold it on there lot the car would be 22K pushing the low miles.

Over the past 10 years or so - there has been a growing interest in and appreciation of - Classic, Collectable and Special Interest cars in Perfect Original condition. In these cases "Original" absolutely means "as it left the factory". Most often these are extremely low mileage examples that have been properly cared for and stored.

New Judging Classes have been added to many of the top Concours Events around the USA, so these perfect original examples can be judged on their own unique merits. As such the competition in these classes has grown as more people get interested - and is now driving the values of these examples higher and ever higher.

At $14K - it would seem that the added value to this model is around $6K to $7K or 100% at this point. On cars 25 years old that premium can easily be 400%. Added to some Collectors private collection, kept in top condition and 7 years from now - it could be an easy $60K.

The buyer remarked that he was going to give it to his daughter to drive. Put 20K miles on this car over the next two years, get a few door dings, a couple of scratches in the paint and add a few aftermarket parts, get the undercarriage and engine bay a little grimy. It will be worth $6K.
FWIW,
Carl B.

It still seems high. It's not a perfect car, engine bay looks average and the interior needs a re-paint. In looking at Ebay (sold listings) I see a 2000 230 with 18K that sold for 8900 and a 2003 32amg with 17 that sold for 14. Obviously we can't examine all three cars side by side but I'd much rather have the amg for that price.

Agreed - if the buyer knew anything about the car he was buying - most likely would not have bid it that high. If he had ask here - most people would have steered him to the AMG if it was near perfect body/paint etc. Still an 18 year old Sports/GT with 10K miles and near perfect condition - at $14K he didn't spend silly money on it.
