Alternator over voltage

What would cause alternator over voltage on occasion? Doesn't do it all the time. I've ordered a re manufactured replacement. When the voltage goes high all the electronic systems quit. ie: the radio goes off, windows won't roll down, top won't go down BAS, and other fault lights. The alternator is a fairly new remanufactured replacement. The only visual flaw is burned connections for one of the winding phases.

When my replacement comes, I plan on running a separate ground wire from the alternator housing to the chassis to ensure ground integrity. Beyond that I'm perplexed.

First question would be, quality of this alternator? I would think it's the voltage regulator, which I believe is integral.

Bad voltage regular in alternator. Over the years I have had less than satisfactory reults with "rebuilt" alternators and starters.
