Bearing in mind I am in the UK and right hand drive mine was to the upper right of the steering column behind the dash. Took mine out and re soldered all connections on the PCB now it works fine.

Plenty of info on doing this.

Regards

Neil.

Oh your in Yorkshire LOL.

Also the relay is the larger black one.
so,access from behind the instrument cluster then?

Having the whole wiring harness, along with the seats, removed from one R170, and put into another, I do not recall having any relay.
The whole thing was one harness, that on one end has 2 cables, connecting into the fuse box, another 2, which went to ground, connected to the wall of the car, and two ends at each side which plugged into the seats.

Below the seats is where all the magic happens.

This is how mine was, maybe yours is different.

Pull the a/c and head light unit out located to the left of the steering wheel. I have 02 320slk WHICH THE SEATS stopped working. I ordered the relay from Rock Auto, opened side fuse panel cover, removed the screws holding the fuse block in place, pulled the a/c head light unit forward and removed. Once the head light switch unit is removed you can see the seat relay (black one inch square to the right & rear of the fuse block. Had a little trouble getting the relay out (just wiggle and pull) Replaced the relay and tested the seats...They work! reassembled the parts and it took about 1-1/ hour.
