Is my transmission schizo?

Hi All

I all seriousness, I just wanted to get some feed back on some issues I've been having with my 1999 SLK230. Firstly, I notice when the engine is still cold, even after i let it warm up from idling, when I step on the gas pedal the transmission will (from a complete stop) start in 2nd gear then abruptly shift down 1st and shift normally. This only happens when the car is not at its operating temperature and when im starting from a stop, after that it goes away and starts in 1st gear. AND NO ITS NOT IN "W" MODE. Another issue I've noticed is if I slam on brakes, like a panic stop for example, and try to drive off again, the transmission act like its in neutral and the car wont move and the engine just revs OR sometimes it will go but it will just hold 1st gear and wont shift out of it. I usually correct this problem by shifting into park and then back in drive or sometimes restarting the car to let the system reset, so to speak. I am not sure what the issue could be, because it does not slip or anything like that, and the problem is not bad, however it concerns me. I got a P700 malfunction code but I don't know what it means. I've had issues before and had the transmission replaced twice and the control unit replaced as well a little over a year ago. The first time it was replaced because the tranny completely went out. the second time was because the transmission wouldn't shift out of 1st, but my mechanic told me it was the control unit that needed replacing, not the tranny but. Any ways, can anyone that knows a lot about these transmission tell whats up before I take it to my mechanic, I would like to know what to expect.

Thanks a lot I appreciate it

Hmm... I would start with checking the transmission fluid level. You need the dipstick for it though.

Not sure about your second problem but the first one is a common complaint. From my previous thread:

So this 'problem' seems to be a 'feature.'
From my 2000 SLK 230 manual, page 149:
"With the transmission in gear range "D", "4", or "3", upshifting from from 1st to 2nd to 3rd gear is delayed depending on vehicle speed and engine temperature. This allows the catalytic converter to heat up more quickly to operating temperatures. During this brief warm-up period this delayed upshift and increased engine noise might be perceived as a malfunction. However, neither the engine nor transmission are negatively affected by this mode of operation."

I just got in the habit of letting the car run for about 45 seconds before I drive off. That seems to be long enough to get past this crazy and annoying issue.
