Door locks not working (but electrics okay)

Hello Friends

My 2002 SLK32 AMG has stopped working its locks: everything else seems to work properly (windows up and down properly, starts easily, headlights).

So I suspect a fuse for the locks. Anybody got a circuit diagram or know which fuse it might be? Seems there's a main fusebox under the bonnet, one in the side, and one in the boot.

Thanks for all help.

Kind regards,
Jonathan.

Check out the PSE pump behind the trim panel in right hand side of the boot. The locks work via a vacuum system, and the area where the pump lives is prone to water ingress, leading to the pump failing.

Sounds promising Woolly ... I took a look but didn't really know what I was looking for or how much panel to remove so I gave up for the day ... I'll search around for some pictures now.

And I couldn't even find the fusebox in the middle pictures here:

Thanks for the tip though. I'll fight it again tomorrow.

Jonathan.

Are you trying to open the car using your remote? Maybe the key needs to be re-synced. Another fun trick i picked up on thanks to slk world is to check the PSE pump, Blow in the pipes and watch your doors unlock atleast you'll know if you have a blockage or a pipe not feeding air. anyway good luck

Full marks! See attached nastiness of the corrosion of my circuit board. I ended up with the garage replacing mine.

For what it's worth, the car works perfectly well without this in. You just have to unlock manually (driver's door and boot have keyholes, petrol cover done by hand just inside the boot, passenger door from inside) and the remote control still does the alarm. I didn't find out how to open the central console box without this.

If anyone is taking one of these apart: you need to gently prise the lid off with lots of small levers (eg screwdrivers) but don't unscrew anything. Lift the cover straight off, as it has legs which hold the rubber-mounted pump in place. Inside is the circuit board, which is attached only by two cables to the pump itself and a solenoid (rather short), and by the top of the suction sensor which is a snug fit into the white plastic housing of the pneumatics. The star-screws attach the pneumatics to the black housing.

Above is about an R170: 2002 SLK 32AMG. Don't know about the other models.

Thanks for advice, perhaps my notes will help someone whose pump isn't as badly corroded.

Kind regards,
Jonathan.

When my locks quit working along with the dome light and trunk light, fuse number 9 in the engine compartment was the culprit.
