Flex Disk - replacement?

My dealer told me my front flex disk is bad and need to be replaced soon. They quoted me $470. is this a DIY job? i see the bolts are easy to get to. I guess my question is once the bolts removed can the drive shaft moved back freely?

thank you livefreeordie. initially i took it in to fix the shift interlock boot leak. I did not have much time to do it myself. ended up replacing tranny mount as well. total cost 790.00. my service adviser told me the flex disk is cracked an unsafe to drive and 470 to replace. I do feel a "bang" when i come to a stop first thing in the morning.....

I've never to replaced the flex disc on my Mercedes but has done a couple on M3. Since it German car, it pretty much the same design (just guessing). It was very easy to do. You need to remove some heatshield to get to the drive shaft. You also need to jack up the rear of the car and tranny in neutral so you can spin the drive shaft to get to all the flex disc bolts.

It's a straight forward DIY job. Here's a link to the DIY with pictures from the W210 board.
DIY: Front Flex Disk replacement (pictures) - Benzworld.org - Mercedes-Benz Discussion Forum

I've replaced all the flex disks on my W201 and W202 for way less than the dealer quoted you.

Good luck.
