Looking at another SLK. Main concern

Need a little input on what might cause this paint bubbling.

When I asked the same question at the garage, they told me:"engine overheating". Don't think that's the right answer so I would also appreciate some proper info on this issue.

Cheers,
Sash

Aluminium oxide forming under the paint. Very common on painted ally components. Only needs a small scratch or blemish in the paint to let some water to contact the metal and off it goes. Can be be cleaned off and repainted.
Der Flieger and JonB like this.

Thanks for the replies. Overheating was my first impression but if you guys tell me its normal I won't worry.

Another item: Borrowed this pic. This is not the car I'm looking at. This piece seems to be missing. Is it part of the bumper cover or is it a separate piece?

appears to be oxidation of the metal under the paint.
