R170 Wheel arch liner removal

I am planning to clean and then rustproof inside all 4 wheel arches on my 2003 SLK 320, so will need to remove all the wheel arch liners. Does anyone know if it is a simple job to remove the liners or is there anything I need to be aware of ? Any advice would be welcome !

The plastic liners are easily removed in minutes just with a 10mm wrench if I remember rightly, just remove the wheel, and use a strong torch/light to work with which will help you see the 4 or 5 small bolts to remove, it makes all the difference.

Are there liners on the back wheel arches? There aren't on my '03 slk 2000 & there is rust inside both wheel arches which is bubbling the paint & just about to creep around onto the face of the panel.

As it happens I have to have some bodywork done on the driver's side panel & resprayed & I wanted to prevent any future rust issues. I was pissed off last Thursday morning when I left the house to go to work & saw red plastic from the car's rear light cluster on the ground behind the car. There is building work going on across the road & it looks like a truck clipped the rear corner of the car leaving a 4 inch gouge on the rear panel just & a broken light cluster. I've no way of proving it as I didn't see it but the blue paint on the gouge mark matched the builders truck colour & I suspect the round hooks under the trailer are exactly at the correct level to match this gouge.

Bloody annoying & no admittance from the builder
