Loose Heat Shield

Had a rattle under the car, I took a look under the car today and noticed the heat shield over the cats hanging loose.

I got under the car to find its fallen off three of the studs..........the studs are very rusty and almost devoid of any thread.

The questions are;

1. Am I correct in assuming that these are studs?
2. How difficult are they to remove?
3. Are new ones a stock item

Thanks in advance

John

They are indeed studs but have a course pitch thread. What has happened is that the heat shield has corroded around the mounting points at the studs and dropped down. The answer is to remove the nuts from the studs (10mm) and insert a 25mm repair washer between the heat shield and nut to bridge the enlarged hole. Ideally get some new nuts from the dealer before starting the job as the old ones are likely to crumble on removal.
