Rear speaker wiring...

Just installed a new Sony head unit. The car does not have rear speakers, but there is wiring for rear speakers originating at the console connector. Can I assume that the factory wiring for rear speakers already exists at the rear speaker location? What is the size of speakers for the rear? I don't want to cut for larger speakers. Amazing that the original front speakers work as well as they do! Thanks in advance.

The speaker wires should be there - but it's easy enough to check. As to what will fit - try this link. The search feature of this site is pretty helpful. One thing to note, the rear speakers as wired from the amp act as subs. So if your new deck has a front to rear fade feature, you will find this won't work.

Anyway, scroll through this link for info about speaker size.

Cheers,
Jay

Installation pic of Sony MEX-N5100BT....

Thought I would share. My ride is a 1999 with the faux carbon fiber. This head unit not only rocks, but it looks very good with the original panel! The display and buttons are infinitely programable for choice of color. I'm using a light amber that is already in the unit. Good match with existing instrument panel lighting. You can check out the specs yourself. The original speakers sound very good considering age. I plan on installing rear speakers as well.
