camshaft noise

Looking at getting an SLK32 an was looking at a likely candidate. But...

After it has been run both cams are noisy at idle. If you listen to the cam cover area (both sides) it sounds VERY buisy under there. Kind of like old style cams in need of adjistment. Not nocky or tappy just seems too noisy. Could this be the chains? If so, is this normal on a warmed up engin? I don't know this engine at all but learning quickly thanks to the help on the this forum.

It also sounds like spark leak (snapping) on one side.

Should either of these be an issue?

Thanks in advance. Yes I've searched.

I just changed the air filters (Saturday) and oil and oil filter today on my SLK32, so I have been listening to my idle sounds with the hood open recently. My car idles pretty quietly, especially from the engine bay. Certainly no snapping sounds coming from the engine.

If it were me, I would have the seller correct the snapping sound, and I would listen to another SLK32 or C32 or Crossfire SRT6 (all the same engine) and see if what you are hearing is louder than normal from the cams.
