Taking my 170 in for a tune up

I have recently purchased a 2001 SLK320(170 V6) with 40k miles on it.

I have driven it for approximately a month and have noticed very recently, like over the weekend, a significant loss of power at low RPM's. Also there is now a hesitation when I hit the gas quickly, it takes a second or two for the power to kick in. It feels almost like a 4cyl.

I have also noticed the loss of power at higher speeds, for instance when I first got the car I used to be able to go from 40-75mph in nothing flat and it would pin me back against the seat. Now it goes slower and after about 50mph seems to struggle to get over 3000 rpms, it just takes it's time.

I have an appointment on Monday to get a diagnostic run and to check everything out. What should I tell them to look for? From scouring these forums I have come up with a few things;

-MAF sensor. It sounds like this might be the problem, however I don't have a check engine light and the car doesn't have many miles on it.

-Gas pedal sensor. This might be it, but I don't know if they can test it or just have to replace it.

-K40 thing. Not sure what this does.

Any other suggestions? Does it just need a tune-up? Thanks.

Very unlikely that you have a problem that can be cured by "just a tune up" - sounds like you have acquired a 'real problem', and the dealer SHOULD be able to get it back to the state it was in. Good luck.

More than likely there will be codes for something. You could pull those BEFORE you take it in to the dealer.. so you don't take it in the arse once you get there.
I wouldn't suggest anything to them other than "fix it". If you tell them to do one certain thing, and that doesn't fix the problem, you get to pay for that.. AND pay for fixing the problem.

I agree let them find out what is wrong, you suggest something that could be the problem too many times they will start there, when that is not the problem but you end up paying for it plus what is wrong. They are the PROs let them figure it out. If they end up wrong then you can complain about, if you are wrong you are stuck with the bill.
