Fuel usage question

Hi i am measuring the fuel usage of my SLK
and it seems on a full Gas tank i can go up to 450 KM
and thats on a 99 slk 230 Automatic with normal usage .
most of the time on city roads.
i try to avoid pressing the gas pedal too much .
on a side note when i get to the half gas tank indicator i get around 200KM
is that normal ?
can you write down how much you get ?

I have never let mine run down to empty and only once let it get down low enough the fuel light came on but when it did run that low, where the light came on, is the only time I got 27mpg?

Most of the time I get 22-24mpg.

I read of others that get 27-30mpg but that has not been the norm for me and I drive like an old lady...according to my 2 son's.

We get about 22 to 24 MPG in the city. But I can't seem to keep my foot from pushing the car when starting out from a stop, or merging onto the highway.

Get around 28 to 29 MPG on the Highway. Will drive from Portland to Seattle, take a drive with the SLK NW group, and then back to Portland, on one tank. Normaly around 450 Miles.

I am sure we could get over 500 miles if we tried. Just hard to try out on the road, not knowing for sure where the next fuel stop is.

Wow. You get impressive numbers for a 2009 SLK 350.

I have the same car. However, I get about 20-21 MPG for normal highway/city mix and at most 25-26mpg for highway only.

My last trip from Seattle to portland, I reset the trip meter and got 29 MPG exactly. Forgot what my average speed was but I am sure it was around 65 MPH.

I am curious what others get that also have 09 350's

I've got a r170 230 but with a manual box. It's my daily ride so with combined driving (city, highway but also with traffic jams) I can strech it to go over 500 km on a full tank if I have to. But I refuel when the indicator is on 1/4th (so before the fuel light comes on), usually refilling with 35~40 liters after ~450 kilometer.

My average consumption now is 8,67l/100km (11,5 km on 1 liter of fuel), measured over almost 13.000 km.

But thats with a manual gearbox, if you add 10% extra consumption because of the auto-box (not uncommon) I would say that 450 km on a full tank is pretty decent? It's not the most economic car in the world but hey, you've got almost 200 horses and a bucket of torque so that's to be expected

What's your driving style?

I've had my SLK230 for around 4 months now, and I seem to be getting around 12l/100km. Didn't make the average calculation yet, but it's an approximate number. It's my daily driver, an automatic and I live in the mountain and have to drive down to the city everyday with traffic jams, and obviously drive back up home with a few kicks to the pedal now and then.

Too bad the R170 doesn't have the consumption indicator like the R171.

Do you guys find the number reasonable?

I get around 25 miles to the gallon in daily driving (50 city and 50 highway) with a 15 gallon tank that comes to 375 miles or 603K. Yes I too also find the needle drops to 1/2 tank fast then slowlly from half to empty tank. Have used Chevron Techron fuel additive and that seems to help the gas gauage to register better and also improve gas milage. A botltle every 3000 to 4000 miles (5000k to 6500k.)

I have had my SLK32 for just under 2 months. I perform an MPG calc on every fill up. My worst is 16 mpg, my best is 19 mpg (including the santa barbara/solvang/lompoc SLKworld drive with a few stretches of :::censored::: mph).

I have never driven a tankful for all highway miles, so I am hoping I would get well over 20 mpg in a case like that. All my tankfuls so far have had plenty of WOT miles

I am mildly jealous of anyone getting over 20 mpg in spirited daily driving, but I get plenty of smiles per gallon!

When you fill up, do you fill it all the up to the gas cap? When I stop for gas, I put as much in as it holds.

Around town 20-22mpg
On a run have had 35mpg but used cruise for most of the 120 miles and sat @ 70 - 75 mph.
I am in UK and we used good old fashioned measurements. Sorry

Usually, I get 24-25 mpg (US gal.) in my daily driving. Average speed in commuting is about 35-40 mph. Lots of stop & go. Most recent fill-up (today) was 26.25 mpg for last week's trips to work. Total commute is 42 miles per day.

On highway trips, I get 28-30 mpg (US gal.) using cruise control at about 70 mph.

I have only had my 2001 SLK230 for about 2 weeks now, and as near as I can tell I am getting about 20 to 27 MPG. I noticed the first day I got it that I went through a half tank of gas mighty fast. I thought "man this thing eats a lot of gas"! I too have noticed that the second half of the tank goes down much slower. The only thing I can chalk this up to is the shape of the gas tank maybe? I have never let it get below 1/8th of a tank and usually fill it up when it gets to 1/4 of a tank. I have also noticed that if I drive with a heavy foot (sometimes I just gotta' do it!) it uses gas much faster.....hehe...

I just got my worst MPG's when I filled up on Sunday after driving agressively in the Malibu hills and Canyons with the Socal SLK group. Approx half the tank of gas was used on this drive, the remainder was "normal" city driving.

Stats for this fill up:

187 miles driven (306 km?) , 14.1 gallons of gas added to get back to full (light was on).

MPG=13.3!!

I usually fill up when the light goes on and the tank will take 12.5 to 14 gallons to get to full. I fill it to the nearest $0.50 after the pump clicks off...so approx another 0.1 gallon after the pump "clicks off".

Typical distance driven per tank for me is 240 miles (393 km?)

One time, I drove awhile with the fuel light on and added 15 gallons to get to full that fill up. Supposedly R170 tanks hold 15.8 gallons. I think most gas stations in calfornia "cheat" by 5 or 10% on gas amount delivered. Last year I put "20.8" gallons into a nearly empty gas tank rated at 20 gallons...

Worst recorded to date is 11.2MPG currently average of 14.4MPG over the last 890 miles

Haven't been on a long trip for a while, but last year managed 27MPG cruising at approx 80 on the motorway

.8 may be the pipe to the tank.

Daily commute I'm consistent at 14-15mpg @ 15mph average.

When actually traveling I managed to peak at 31mpg @ 71mph average for one of the legs. Over the course of 2500 miles on that trip I think the average ended up being around 25mpg.
