Accessory Drive Belt

How often does the Accessory Drive Belt need changing? Part of the B Service schedule says to:

Check condition of accessory drive belt

I take it this is like an auxiliary belt where if it snaps it does NOT do the engine any damage? Or is it like a timing / cam belt?

How often / mileage does the accessory belt need replacing?

Not like a cam belt. No valve damage. You'll loose the alt. and more importantly, the water pump. The belt is about $30. The length really depends on where you are, the kind of driving you do, and the conditions. If it's cracked or shows signs of wear.. or been 30-40k miles.. just replace it. Cheap insurance. Takes less than 15 mins.
