What would this car be worth?
My elderly (89 yr. old) uncle passed away last week in Florida and I went down to attend the funeral and help my aunt settle her affairs. Seems the old guy had a 2002 SLK 230 Kompressor that was his baby.
The car is bright red with not much in the way of any options except for auto trans and has (get this!) only 1700 miles on it! It has been kept covered in a garage and has never seen rain, salt, wind, dust, or cold weather. It looks like it just came out of the showroom.
Despite the low mileage, it was driven a few times a month (obviously for short trips) and was never parked near any other cars. Mostly it was pulled out of the garage, driven for fun, then returned to the garage so there isn't a ding or chip anywhere on it. It appears that this was enough to keep the battery working and the fluids moving. Heck, the oil is new and amber 'cause I think he even had it changed.
Any ideas what this car would be worth? I have a 2006 SLK 350 and have no use for the car, but it is most certainly like new. Kelly Blue book says a car in this pristeen condition should fetch between $21 and $25,000. Does that sound right? Better yet, does anyone out there want this practically new car?
