R 170 heated seat question

Hello ,

I bought my 1997 SLK 230 this summer and so far I did not use the heated seats ..

I have the switch with the two positions and related lights on them .

But the problem is that when I press them ( up for low or down for high) nothing happens .

This is valid for both seats heater ( driver and passenger ) .

As I have the swithches , I assume I must have "heated seats " but
as I do not get anything ( no light on the switches ) I think
there is a problem with the electricity .
Can it be a simple fuse problem ?
Any ideas ?

Thanks for yr help,

I would check fuse first. That's a simple thing to do.

let us know if that is it.

I checked the fuses (there are two fuses in the fuse box ) .
Both seem to be good.
I also checked the connections (plugs ) under the seats , they also look O.K.
It seems there is no energy on the switches ( as the lights are not working in any position ) so I assume the problem is between the engine compartment and the switches.
I have to go to an electrician

It sound like a broken heater element in the seat pad. When one breaks, it affects the circuit.

Do a search for heater element and there may be a fix, otherwise it's expensive since they replace the heater pads in the seats at the dealer.

Unless??????? Someone replaced the bezel with a new one or upgraded it and just got it with the switches? Check the plugs under the seats. I dont have heated seats and under the driver's seat there are two plugs..one is red I think anf the other black...both contain two wires. So if you got the same you know you dont have heated seats. It's only food for thought. I think all are prewired for all that stuff but dont have it installed. Like mine came prewired for the phone but I dont have one etc.

Just a quick question - which fuses are for the heated seats? There appear to be no labels in my fuse box. Passenger's seat will warm up but not the drivers, so I suspect a fuse - or another issue as alluded to above!
Thanks.

Ignore my last post, sorry. I've already worked it out - and one fuse does both seats so it's another problem.
