Small spring from Dashboard

When changing interior -air filter under dash at passenger side, a small broken spring was lying on the underdash plastic panel. Obvious it come from dash at passenger side. Any ideas ??? Size is 40 mm broken. Around 45 mm complete.(1 3/4 inch)

I would say it has something to do with the air conditioning flaps.

Spring position

Seemes to come from this unit. Not the easiest part to access.

Found some info in this thread, but its probably more than is needed to fix this
https://www.slkworld.com/slk-r170-cla...r-problem.html

Do I need to remove dashboard to access this unit ?

I know this is an old thread, but I've got the exact same problem. My spring is even broken in the same spot.

I've removed the glovebox, vacuum reservoir, and vacuum element, but I can't access the area where the spring connects. I tried to remove the passenger airbag to gain some additional access, but after removing the four mounting bolts, I can't maneuver it out.

I read in https://www.slkworld.com/slk-r170-cla...r-problem.html that someone managed to replace the spring without removing the dash, but he doesn't give any detail. Does anyone have advice?

Thanks
