Slk roof not opening completely!

Just tried my roof and the open sequence gets to lowering the side windows front and rear and the trunk lid unlocks and opens then nothing. All I can hear is the motor?

Im new to this and ive read so many different threads about this but is there a procedure to start through or a process of elimination?

Any help would be great.

Many Thanks Jon

Sounds like a problem with the micro switches ..

Have a look through the links from Leapyfish , they should give you a good place to start looking !

What are all these diagnosis codes relating to or what do I do to fix it?

If you look through this :

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/atta...eshooting-.pdf

It'll tell you where to start looking for your synptoms .
And this will tell you the location of the switches ..

You might want to start by checking you have enough hydrolic fluid in the pump and also checking the actuators in the front of the roof aren't leaking and that they are working/releasing ??

Just went outside to investiagte a bit more, started car and gave the button a push and it worked! What a result im so chuffed. Finally some good has come out of buying this car as immediately I had to spend on a front ABS sensor and I also had an auto electrician trying to find a knackered wire so I could MOT the car.

Finally got the car MOT'd yesterday so one last problem to fix is the heater. The fan does not come on although I can feel the hot air through the vents?

Good news, I wish mine would do the same and simply fix itself up.

Cheers, mark

Not so good news just tried to open it again on this glorious day and it got stuck again ffs! It got as far as lowering all windows then the boot flipping open. After you can hear the motor spinning but that's it. I tried it a few times and even tried to apply a bit of pressure but still no!

Mine did just the same......
Was diagnosed as one of three switches.
I did notice that "sometimes" if I tugged up on the trunk lid after it was open as far as it would, The roof would move.
So we replaced the "trunk open" switch and FIXED !!!

Well it opened and closed @ the start of the day then come this evening it got stuck again.

I had the car scanned by a Neighbour and these are the codes diagnosed: B1268, B1275, B1279.
I have not yet had a chance to look these up but will do this evening.

The Neighbour who scanned it is an auto electrician and he managed to open it by releasing it manually with the allen key. He suspects it's the catches above the windscreen as these are not releasing?

Thought id update this thread as I have now cured the problem.

I manually released the roof using the allen key, removed the 3 screws to drop the headlining down and the piston that turns upon opening that detaches the roof from the top of the windscreen had seized either due to lack of use or not being maintained. So I sprayed wd40 on it and turned it a few times to work the grease in and thats it job done! Before when I tried to open via the allen key it was really stiff and now I know why. Now it works effortlessly!

Congratulations!! Was it actually the piston or was it the mechanism that was binding?

It was the piston. The part that turns with the allen key as it was very stiff.

So after figuring out the roof I had a new low today. Got in the car this morning as normal drove to the gym, done my workout come back to the car and it doesn't start. No cranking at all. All lights are on dash, everything else works but nothing. I tried about 20 times to crank and still nothing. So called the AA to recover me then after 10 mins of waiting I tried and it started. WTF this car is jinxed!

So I have been doing some research and im gathering this is something to do with the dreaded K40 relay?
