VDFFB 3.1 - remote roof opening for R170

I purchased this for my (now sold) SLK R170 in 2007 but never got it fitted and it has sat in a cupboard since.
It is a kit to convert the roof opening mechanism such that it can be opened remotely, a feature which I think was introduced as an option on the R171.
The kit includes fitting instructions, cables, electronics and all the required fittings. It will be sent as it arrived to me - the only change is that at some point I have written the name and contact info of a local installer on the back of the fitting instructions.
Summary of features:
- Roof opened and closed with the vehicle remote
- Roof opened or closed with the switch inside without holding it
- Windows opened or closed with the vehicle remote
- Emergency stop function
- Neutral with regard to vehicle diganosis systems

I can provide pictures of the item on request.

Cost me 217 Euros in 2007. Sensible offers please. Happy to ship globally at cost plus minimal packing consideration.

I was wondering if this was still available?

How does this differ from SmartTop and if it works with a 1998 SLK230

Thanks!

It fits cars from 1997 onwards - the operating instructions can be viewed online if you search on the product name VDFFB 3.1
I've not come across the SmartTop sorry so I can't compare

Phil,
If you can post a link to the Installation instructions then you may have a market. The SmartTop installation for the R170 is very complicated - if this one is easier it would be an attractive purchase for our members. Unfortunately I can only find Operating Instructions.

Best Wishes,

Moving while on the move

In case you are interested in using while on the move:
The device automates the opening/closing operaton - there is no mention (that I can see) in either the fitting or operation instructions regarding use on the move. My assumption is that you can operate the roof as normal (including on the move but slowly) but without holding down the button the whole time. That is just an assumption though - please draw your own conclusion!

Thanks Phil

I had a look at the manufacturer's instructions and description (in German) as well, and like you, I can't see anything about open/close on the move. I'll play safe and assume it doesn't perform that function. Sorry to have troubled you.
