SLC 43 limited diff oil change - no longer required

I spoke to mercedes UK to find out about the differential oil change as my car has the sticker on the windshield, but nothing in the handbook. (Dealer didn't really know)
They put me through to an AMG specialist who advised that any cars registered after 20th December 2018 it is no longer a requirement - when I asked why, was told that it was deemed not necessary/overkill - I have asked for email confirmation of this, but should be reassuring for anyone who was late with getting it done because of confusion.

I find that difficult to believe. The LSD is a clutch type, and therefore is going to shed clutch material as you use it.

Interesting LSD Oil Change info.....
I phoned the MB dealership that supplied My SLC43 and they said that it was no longer required...

So I phoned the Basingstoke MB Dealer who will be serving My R172 and they said 1000 miles...!!

So then phoned MB UK and they said 1800 miles for mine and that was less than two weeks ago - Though mine was registered October 2018...

The problem with any service intervals is some people don't want the trouble of keep taking there cars in, so want long service intervals.. Which is fine if Your only planning to keep the car for 3 Years and 36,000 miles before chopping it in..
But what is best for long term trouble free motoring....??

This. I made the selling dealer change my LSD oil on purchasin the '17 SLC 43. Car had approx 8k miles at purchase. I dont trust NOT doing it on a performance car with a LSD.

Just to update this post, had My LSD Oil Change done last week - Though My car was registered well before 20th December 2018..
(Though interesting that this LSD oil change included a "test drive" of My car around the Basingstoke Ring Road, when I check the cars App... )

Trev,

They probably had to check that the new oil didn't restrict drifting and donuts??

Only joking

I think you'll find that the service folk had a full schedule,
hence Cornwall was not on the cards.

I had Mercedes call me yesterday to see if I was happy with the service I received when Purchasing my SLC43 last week, so I asked her, she was unsure and said Iíd get a call back to confirm.
So should get 1 today, hopefully, but mine was shipped in August and registered in September so it sounds as though itís a given on mine.

Whether itís free or not donít know especially as I brought in Harrogate but my local MB is Ipswich., weíll see.

Well I didnít receive the said phone call so still unaware, but as I now have service contract Iím assuming it will be covered by that!.

Still only covered 535 miles but getting there slowly, think there could be a niche business here.....running in Mercedes cars for the owners

The differential oil change should be Free of charge and this you should be able to have done at any MB Dealer irrespective of you having a service contract or not..

Well, update, booked in at Ipswich Mercedes, waited for awhile only to be told that car does not require oil change.
I said that car came with window screen sticker stating that it did but I had disposed of sticker, so had to come away without oil change.

But when looking through manual I found the stickers in back of book, have now emailed manager at Ipswich with a photo of stickers and he is contacting Mercedes and will get back to me ASAP.

Car has got a lot more exciting now that I have covered the initial run in period.

Well Ipswich Mercedes has rung back with a big apology and are now doing oil change next week, offered collection and delivery FOC but thought better of it, I'm the only one whose going to drive it.
Also offered some petrol as way of compensation.
