(C)omfort Drive Mode default

I like driving in Sport Mode. First thing I do after starting the engine is one press of the Dynamic Select button to change from Comfort Mode to Sport Mode (third thing is pressing Manual button, but that's for another discussion).

I was told by the selling Dealer that the 43 AMG will remember my last set Drive Program for a few hours after turning off the engine. However, even if I'm back in the car turning on the engine five minutes after turning it off, I'm right back in Comfort Mode.

Questions:
Will other 43 AMG owners confirm this Drive Mode behavior?
Anyone figure out a way to change Drive Mode default to user defined?

1) put it into S+ (my wife calls it big showoff mode) before you start ----won't solve your problem but it sounds much better
2) I imagine that our cars would be the same - mine stays in the last mode for several hours (never timed it). What does your manual say?

It may be that you need an option ticking via DAS/STAR.

Certainly this question comes up for the 172 occasionally.

Try a search, if you still struggle I'll ask the tech guys.
(Not sure how much 172 experience there is but they are clever folk).

If those two guys don't know I suggest going back to the dealer
and pointing out what he said does not happen.
That you have spoken to other owners and it does happen for them.
You want an explanation/free fix.

I confess whatever I select it will always resort back to 'comfort' mode the next day.
Presume this is a feature of the 9 speed box.
Its no real hassle to press the 'mode 'button again to pop back into Sport mode.
or two presses to go into "Sport+" woo hoo!

Mine reverts to ECO/Comfort mode on every new start up. I think you need to have the Dynamic Handling Package for the car to remember the setting when the car is switched off.

Sometimes when I'm in a rush, I forget to push The Dynamic Select button once (or twice for Sport+) before taking off. Then I'm rudely reminded of my error the first time I come to a stop and the engine turns itself off. I am in, after all, eco mode.

Thanks all for your comments. Not only does it sound like the return to Comfort mode is immediate for others, but it doesn't look like there's a work-around in DAS/STAR. I will be bringing this up with my selling dealer!

At the end of the day this is not a big deal. It is a nuisance, however, and I had been hoping to hear from all of you that the problem was just my 43 AMG.

A bigger deal is when I take the dog out for a spin and she whacks her paw on the center console and puts me in neutral! Making up for that is that she enjoys my hard driving exponentially more than my wife.

Ah, yes ... DOGS!

And with the SLKs (certainly 170 and 171) a sideways tap of the gearstick
to help you change gear

R172 as well. I tend to put my hand on the shifter (just resting it there) and sometimes accidently drop it down to 1st and accelerate hard from a stop.

Dash lights up like a doomsday machine as it redlines on me. Quite startling the first time it happens .

Finally I see an upside to the 43 AMG's removal of center console MANUAL shifting: by restricting my manual shifting to the steering wheel paddles only, neither the pooch nor I can accidentally shift gears from the center console!

I've had that same ability on my Magnum (12 yr). I think I might have used it half a dozen times if that. It's not an advantage IMO. That was when Daimler-Benz was pulling Chrysler out of the dumper.

Hi.

Much the same thing.

My SLC250 defaults to Comfort on restart.

Cam on here to ask the very same question.

A mechanic told me the 'S' stands for 'Standard' not 'Sport', there's no such thing as 'Sport' mode.
