..... the wipers will not self park when switching the ignition off, so nothing to worry about there. This is the same as my old SLK, so I suspect it's just a slight lack of attention to detail by Mercedes' engineering team.
It is also this same maneuver that is mentioned in the R171 owner's manual: turn off ignition when wiper blade is in vertical position, so it stops in this "upright"/deployed position, thus allowing the owner/operator/technician to change/replace the wiper blade (Caution: always protect front windscreen with several layers of soft towel or thick cloth when changing/replacing wiper blades).
