Cool Cornish Byways Road Trip & Pictures:

So, Day 1:
Decided to make a longer trip of @DaveR Cornish Byways Road Trip by leaving a few days early, just to warm the tyres up You understand!
https://www.slkworld.com/united-kingd...ml#post4249209

Having breakfast, it kind of looked promising for a top down drive - down to "The South West":

...but once our Choclate Lab’ had been dropped off at the dog sitters and got under way down the M4 Motorway, We made it a total of 8 miles before spits of rain started appearing on the windscreen...
(Though have to say that this was better than the 3 miles for last years Scottish Spring Road Trip...)
https://www.slkworld.com/roadtrip-fie...2s_2017-a.html
But hey ho, only a bit of rain – just keep pushing on..??
No, after a couple of heavy showers between Reading & Newbury, We (I) relented and put the roof up....

Normally would stop at “Taunton Deane Services” on the M5, but as We where planning exit the M5 at Taunton, stopped at “Bridgwater Services” instead. Was only using it as a comfort break & can't see much reason to stop here, but was impressed with the multi-story parking – Very SLK Friendly...!!

Heading South from Taunton, used some nice SLK driving roads and just South of Honiton, came across the “Hare & Hounds” a very friendly pub for a spot of lunch, with a distant view of the sea:

Though looking threatening, departed our lunch stop “top down” to the lovely sea side resort of Sidmouth:

Before tracking along the coast to “Budleigh Salterton” for a ice cream.
Though only a very sleepy sea-side town, it does have a very fine pebble beach:

Then carried on West to our overnight stop in Exmouth.

Looking good Trev. Won't be that quiet by next weekend..........

Stopped at that very same services last Friday. As you say, very SLK friendly. I think the architect screwed up since the bays between the supports are not quite big enough for two cars so making them a very generous one car space

Been meaning to ask where your spring day out in the Cotswolds photo was taken - is that Ashton Keynes?

Day 2

Day 2 -- Started nice & sunny in Exmouth, with a nice view from our Hotel:

Thought We’d have a quick spin around Exmouth:

....and wondered how long it would take for some one to park right bang next to us, in this deserted public car park...??

Quick stop at MB in Exeter for coffee & to check out a Selenite Grey SLC (With out the Night Pack...)
Showing here the difference in colour to My current Palladium Silver:

Before a sprint onto Dartmoor
.....to visit “Castle Drogo” – Though currently covered in a free standing scaffolding tent (Apparently the largest in Europe) We did enjoy the “hard hat tour” to see how the Ł13 million pound leaky roof repairs where going:
https://goo.gl/maps/CYQGruwAVLy

Then checked out Fingle Bridge:

https://goo.gl/maps/ezBhEtWS46G2
Now this is when Your glad You didn’t purchase that MB SL or GT...!!

Hmmm... So what happen to the sunny Spring Weather.....??
Possibly @frogfoot rain dance was better ours

We stayed at the Woodleigh Coach House last night & with this low pressure sweeping in from the west, the rain could be heard on our Velux window from the early hours:

Looking pretty wet out side:

After a very very wet drive down from Dorset, the weather dried up but stayed very overcast by the Tamar bridge:

After the bridge, we drove to the Devonport Ferry where we were treated to the VIP treatment - our own SLK-only boarding queue:

Next, after some Cornish country lanes, we found ourselves in Kingsand where we had lunch by the sea:

Friday 27th April
The first day of @DaveR. Cornish Byways Road Trip:

(Following on from @savcom report above, some same & different picture of the same route)
Departing Woodleigh Coach House, with 5 x SLK’s:

Heading across the sweeping roads of a wet Dartmoor, after ~6 hours of rain:

After a coffee stop, headed to the Tamar Bridge, at which point the rain finally stopped and DaveR promptly put His roof down just before this quick photo stop:

Then looped around to the Torpoint & boarded this chain ferry from Devon to Cornwall:

Having been given priority departing from the ferry, next stop was Cawsands, and it’s narrow streets:

....and a light lunch at the Devonport Inn, sitting outside on the sea front:

Back to the cars, We departed top down:

.... before more excellent rolling twisty SLK roads to our afternoon tea stop in Seaton with it’s home made rock cakes,
this was followed by more lovely driving roads, all with little traffic and making good use of My Flappy Paddles
.....to our second river crossing (Bodinnick Chain Ferry)

Then as the clouds got heavy & grey, made it to Newquay around 6pm
Great day – Well done DaveR on such a well researched route

I had assembled a second post last night but the WiFi in the hotel died before it was posted, so I will try again....

After lunch and a twisty-turny narrow drive along the coast, we stopped at Seaton for afternoon tea. The attendant had reserved us a space so that we could all park together - much to the annoyance of a Focus driver who thought her car was worthy....

The surf was pretty good:

So much so that this chap managed a short spurt:

But clearly some people were not impressed.... (look at the chap on the end of the buttress)

After getting to Newquay, and settling into our hotel rooms, we all met for a meal at the Pentile Hotel and all ended well.

Almost... After all the rain and muck thrown up through the day, Mother Nature decided that we hadn't had *quite* enough to deal with, so she arranged for a little treat for Silkie....

Saturday 28th April:

After meeting up at Newquay Fire station, Eight x SLK’s headed off on today’s Route down towards Lands End:

Once under way, our first stop was a group picture with the Big Trucks of Britannia Lanes:

Then carried on down the North Coast of Cornwall, Martin pictured here departing “Portreath”:

Morning coffee was at “Hells Mouth Cafe” with a short walk to view some impressive Cornish coast line.
Then drove the “B3306” between the famous “St Ives” and “St Just”, which is listed as one of Cornwall’s great scenic drives – The twisty up & down the gentle hills of this part of the coast line was brilliant to drive, with little traffic and just perfect for SLK top down driving:

Lunch was at “Sennen Cove” – Hear with @DaveR. and part of the group waiting for Toasted Sandwiches:

Moving on after lunch, a brief comfort break turned into Ice Cream break in the harbour town of “Porthleven”:

...departing “Porthleven” along the cobbled harbour side road:

...though this un-scheduled ice cream break did mean skipping a afternoon tea stop, but still had time to include the “King Harry Ferry”:

... with an excellent road leading away from the ferry on the other side...

The final leg back to our accommodation did leave Me with the dilemma – do I breath in & go under this tractor, or just go around it ...?

So all in all another excellent day out on the Cornish “B” Roads & followed by a nice group meal at the cliff top “Lewannick Lodge”

Sunday 29th April (Part: 2of2)

Leaving the group in a cloudy Boscastle, We headed solo to just the other side of Tintagel for a cuppa from our flask & enjoy the view from the comfort of our SLK:

The same car park, but looking the other way with the village church:

Suitably refreshed, We headed off down the coast past “Wadebridge” & “Padstow”
The final leg to Newquay I’ve done many a time in our Dog Mobil SUV, but far more enjoyable in a SLK
Passing through “Mawgan Porth” (Just see the road coming down the hill side, above the lamp post & it’s hair pin bend on exit to the left of the picture)

Just dropping down to the surfing beach of Watergate Bay – Just see a car climbing the road up the hill side & Newquay on the horizon:

Made it back to the Hotel in Newquay just after 6pm – No idea way each of the days out on this Cornish Byways trip have recorded such low mpg....??

View of Fistral Beach from our Hotel room on this lovely sunny Sunday evening:

Final Group Meal – Well done to Martin for sorting this out

I've tinkered with the dash cam footage from the three days and the first video I have published is the trip from Kingsand to Seaton. If you like this, I'll publish the other seven videos. I should have some 360 footage too but I've not processed that yet - nor have I gone through my photos either. Rather a lot going on here unfortunately (including Duxford, a funeral, some vandalism to my BMW and trying to sell the house).

Sigh. Google's compression messes up the video again!
