Day trips New England USA

We like to take day trips, 100-300 mile type.

don't have pictures

some of our favorites

start in Ma, take rt 119 west from RT495 trough NH. often turn back at Brattleboro Vt. Sometimes take rt 30 north out of Brattleboro, vt to Rt 100, then onto Ludlow ,Vt.

In Ma rt 133 to Georgetown, ma. A backroad to Newberryport, Ma, then Rt 1 to Rt1A up to Prtsmouth, NH. Back on Rt 1 at Portsmouth and sometimes into Kennebunkport, Me on Rt 9. then home.

In Ma rt 62 west to Rt 122A west and onto Rt 122 west. Sometimes turn around at rt 202, sometimes onto 202 north to Rt2 and on to Shelbornefalls, Ma and the Bridge of Flowers.

and sometimes we just take roads to see where they go.

edit: sorry posted in work section.

Not sure where in MA you are but if you want to try a new RT. go north on 93 through the Franconia notch around MT. Washington and head south on RT. 16 back to 95. Lots of things to do includeing a senic train ride in Conway.

have done that, nice ride

also like 93 to 107 to 102 sometimes 102 into Laconia sometimes 102 to 28 to 109 north from Wolfboro.

also 495 to 125 to 16 north

couple weeks ago we did 13 north out of Ma to NH 70 to (think)114 to 9 to 31 north to 10.then into Vt and down 100 to 30 into Brattleboro and 119 out of Brattleboro.

really like the scenery on 31 but that section north of 9, the road must be 10-15 miles of frost heaves, could have lost a filling.

, no problem. We just got back from a weekend trip to lake George, very nice ride. Pick up 89 in Concord NH head north to Rt4 west all the way across VT into NY. Pick up RT 149 in Whitehall that will take you just above great escape and Glensfalls area.

Route 8 starting in Connecticut, follow all they way across Massachusetts until it turns into Route 100 in Vermont. Take 100 all the way to Waterbury Vermont (Route 89). Either take the highway back home (89 - 91) or just turn around and take Route 100 back. Very entertaining road.

been on Rt 100 many times, usually pick it up where it meets rt30

going to have to look up rt 8, don't remember that one at all

edit:

Ok, looked up rt 8.

I like going on rt2 in Mass (west of US rt 91), might try rt2 east from North Adams ( ever been to the MOCA in North Adams, interesting museum) and going up rt112 from Shelbourne Falls, (have never been on rt 112) back to rt100. Shelbourne Falls has the Bridge of Flowers, which is a nice take.

also might want to try rt 30 from Brattlebore to rt 100. been a long time since we were on rt 9 west of brattleboro, so don't know what it like. takes us about 45 minutes to go from where rt100 joins rt30 to Brattleboro

we're about 15 miles from the New Hampshire border, 20 miles from Boston. takes us 2 hours (we don't use the interstate)to reach the southern end of Lake Winnipasaki (very bad spelling)

Although not tecnically New England. Route 22 in New York runs north south.

I take Route 2 west across Mass and pick up route 22 just across the NY state line and go south, from there you can find route 44 east back through Connecticut.

There are a ton of great roads in the area defined by the cirlce of roads in that route above...check Litchfield County in Connecticut....
